I think the spring game is sometime around the 31st but don't quote me on that. If its true then practice should begin around next week.Quote:

Last year there was a scrimmage (don't remember if it was the spring game) the day of a baseball game.Quote:

A new era in the UL football program begins today when the Ragin' Cajuns open spring drills for the 2007 season.
New coordinators will be in place for head coach Rickey Bustle when practice kicks off at 3:30 p.m., and new offensive coordinator Blake Anderson will be revamping the Cajun offense with a new quarterback in charge.
Defensively, coordinator Kevin Fouquier will take charge of a unit that will enter drills with a different, and multiple, philosophy.
"We don't want all these changes to be a setback," said Bustle, whose team finished a disappointing 6-6 overall and 3-4 in league play last fall after being picked to win the Sun Belt Conference title. "On both sides, we want to feel good about how much our players understand what we're putting in.
"It's not going to be how much we get in, it's how we execute what we do get in. We're not going to throw mud on the wall and see what sticks."

The Cajuns will have the NCAA-mandated two days of non-contact drills today and Friday before donning pads for the first time on Saturday morning. UL also plans workouts on Monday, Wednesday and Friday next week before a scheduled first full-scale scrimmage March 17.
The Cajuns will hold 15 total practice sessions before the March 31 spring game at Cajun Field.
Today's session isn't the first workout activity for the squad this spring ... it's just the first one at a decent hour.
"We've had our 6 a.m. 'red dawn' sessions the last two weeks," Bustle said. "This is kind of taking it to the next phase, and our kids are excited about it because they know we're going to be doing a lot of new things."
Junior Mike Desormeaux, who logged significant time in a backup role the last two seasons, is the heir apparent at the quarterback slot with the graduation of four-year starter Jerry Babb. But Bustle said that John Hundley and Connor Morel would both get an extensive look during spring drills.
That quarterback group will be in an offense that isn't completely new, but will have some wrinkles designed with the quarterbacks in mind.
"We're going to play to their strengths a little more," Bustle said. "It's still going to be very much a high-tempo offense and the no-huddle is part of the plan. We're going to combine some of the things we've done with some different wrinkles, and try not to make the quarterback the focal point of everything."
UL's defense underwent a major overhaul two seasons ago, going from the eight-man front to the 4-3, and that alignment remains similar - albeit with flexibility, Bustle hopes.
"We want to be able to get into the '50' when we need it," he said, "and I think this philosophy will let us do that. It's going to be a lot of different terminology, and hopefully that won't take us long to get used to."

still hard to watch a practice at eye level unlike being elevated in cajun field to grasp how everyone looks. at eye level you can only watch one phase of practice at at time.it is alot easier to see the plays develope from above. A defense that is performing poorly can make an offense look really good.Quote:

Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns enjoyed their first spring football practice on Wednesday afternoon. Head coach Rickey Bustle welcomed 86 players to the practice field under nearly perfect weather conditions. Bustle also watched his four newest coaches take to the practice field for the first time.
Kevin Fouquier (defensive coordinator, linebackers), Blake Anderson (offensive coordinator/quarterbacks), Hurlie Brown (cornerbacks) and Darryl Mason (wide receivers) all made their coaching debuts on Wednesday.
“It was a great day,” said Bustle. “The players were excited about being out here. The coaches were excited about getting started and doing some new things on both sides of the ball.
“The players have embraced the (coaching) changes. I think change brings about excitement, new ideas and philosophies.”
There was a definitive jump in the steps of the athletes during the two-hour, 12-period workout. The players were vocal and the practice tempo was upbeat.
“The guys were eager to get out here,” explained Bustle. “We wanted to focus from the first day.
“There are no depth charts. Every position is open. Everybody is going to compete for a job.
“The players are trying to do things right and impress their coaches. Even if you played last year, you’ll have to earn your stripes.”
The Cajuns will practice on Friday at 3pm in shorts. Saturday’s workout at 9:45am will be the teams first in full pads. There will be contact drills on Saturday, but no live work.
The Cajuns remaining spring practice schedule:

Saturday, March 10 – 9:45am
Monday, March 12 – 3:30pm

Many of the area's high school football coaches got an up-close view of a new-look UL squad Wednesday when the Ragin' Cajuns officially opened spring drills for the 2007 season.
The UL coaching staff, one that includes four new members this year, hosted an evening clinic for the area coaches following Wednesday's two-hour workout session.
"We've done it for a couple of years," said Cajun coach Rickey Bustle, "but this is the first time we've done it on our first day. It's an informal thing, a chance for everyone to meet and talk football."
The 86 returning members of the UL squad finally got a chance to do football-related drills Wednesday, after several weeks of off-season conditioning - the last two weeks featuring the infamous 6 a.m. "red dawn" sessions.

It was also the first chance for many of the squad members, notably the quarterbacks, wide receivers, linebackers and cornerbacks, to experience practice with their new position coaches.
New staffers Blake Anderson (offensive coordinator/quarterbacks), Kevin Fouquier (defensive coordinator/linebackers), Hurlie Brown (cornerbacks) and Darryl Mason (wide receivers) had their first chances for on-field interaction with their position groups.
"I think the players were well prepared and the coaches were well prepared," Bustle said. "While our guys are learning the plays and the defenses, they've also got to learn the coaches and the coaches have to learn about them.
"Part of the X's and O's is learning each other. You've got to learn that chemistry between the coaches and players, and the guys have to see what type of effort they have to give with our new guys."
The session was held in helmets and shorts and kicked off a series of 15 practices during the spring. NCAA mandates require the first two sessions in shorts including Friday's 3 p.m. practice. UL will don pads for the first time at 9:45 a.m. Saturday, and will hold full-gear sessions next Monday, Wednesday and Friday before a scheduled Saturday scrimmage.
"There weren't a lot of mental mistakes," Bustle said of the 12-period workout. "You always have some on a first day, but it was good to see we didn't have many."

I was answering your comment, ( its kind of hard to watch practice unless they practice on cajunfield but will definately give scrimmage reports and spring game reports. The practice field is surrounded by bushes so its difficult to see whats going on.) Your comment seem to indicate the bushes were the problem. Now I see you need the sky box view to evaluate the practice. I find that I get a better understanding of what the coaches want in the one on one drills, and if the coach is satisfied. There is nothing imo like being twenty or thirty feet away from the action and hearing what a coach has to say to the participants. Each to his own. Spring drills imo are to learn football, we won't know how well they learn until they compete against an opponent. ;) ;) ;) ;)Quote:
