It isn't about liberal or conservative, it's about giving students a reason to care about UL athletics consistently. Boost marketing efforts directed at students for every game, stop alienating the greeks, and make game day the place to be for students. You have to do these things consistently year over year to get a culture of students caring about UL athletics.
Will an athletics fee pass? Depends on if SGA gets behind it or not.

I used to say that there was no way it can be done here...but if ULM did it, UL can.
If you get the right people on campus campaigning for it, it could be done. The fact that ULM did it shows that we need to try.

Was it tried while HUD was here? If so, and it failed, forget the thought. There is no energy for UL athletics in this town anymore much less in that student body.

I don't think it was tried.
They used "Athletics" to front one of the Master Plans (buildings) but an athletic fee specifically for athletics was never on the table.
just my recollection

It ain't so much a liberal vs. conservative thing these days. Hell, if I were a student and knew that right now there was a prefiled bill for this upcoming legislative session to make NIL earnings for Louisiana college athletes tax free, I'd say F--- No to forking over my or my parents' money in the form of a tuition fee to fund athletics.
And I voted YES on the one that was attempted when I was at UL, but today's format is a completely different game, and I honestly don't like it.
Re: ULM Going After Student Fee
We passed a student fee when I was a student. But it was sold as being for Bourgeois and Athletics or something.
I really don't think students would pass it now-a-days, especially after seeing the current tuition and fees breakdown in another thread. I'm with runner, I don't even know if I'd vote for it today. When is enough enough for "student" athletes these days?
Re: ULM Going After Student Fee
Students enjoy athletic events at no cost. UL doesn’t have an athletics fee, but most universities in the SBC do. In order to stay competitive, UL needs to pass this too. An athletic fee is not NIL, but to support athletics.
Re: ULM Going After Student Fee
If I was a student there is absolutely zero way I’d vote yes on a student fee.

No one said the athletic fee was or for NIL. But now with NIL, and in Louisiana an effort to exempt NIL monies from state income taxes when your regular student working at Pizza Village is still subject to state income taxes, I can see where those students say no way.
Re: ULM Going After Student Fee
What are the reasons & situations UL students would agree to an athletic fee?
