The lone G5 spot can’t be stolen. Highest ranked G5 conference champ goes to the Playoff.

They would have to win the AAC Championship Game and end up the highest ranked G5 Conference Champion.

There is no G5. It’s the highest ranked top 5 highest ranked conference champions out of 9 conferences this year that get an auto bid. PAC does not have 8 members so they do not qualify for the 5 auto bids.

How far out do the rankings go? I.e. just top 25, or a ranking of all teams and highest could be 45th for example and still make it?

Now yall are starting to get it. Everyone got on my case for being dismissive about winning our 6th game.
We have to think bigger. Being in the hunt for the CFP up until the last few weeks of the season will do wonders for this program. Way more than some run of the mill bowl game.
Keep winning each game in front of us and let the chips fall where they may.

So this slot they keep having Boise in and talk about other G5 teams possibly getting should they lose, that slot is not designated for highest ranked G5 specifically?

As I understand it, the G5 is not designated as such. However, the top 5 conference champions are awarded an automatic bid. There are now only 4 "Power" conferences, so de facto the highest rated G5 champion is automatically in. I believe that is correct.
So, I don't think it matters what happens to teams in the "Poser" conferences, only what the Boises and Armys and Tulanes do.

No one was satisfied with bowl eligibility as an end result for the season. That doesn’t mean it’s wasn’t a good checkpoint 7 games into the season.
