Re: Cajuns path to the NCAA tourney each year
if it is such a good metric why did other sports move away from it?

I think he answered that, it is flawed.
It is a good overall metric, but it is flawed....It needs to be one of the criteria, but not the only criteria.

I'll give you a perfect example. There is a team with an RPI of 61, they were 59th heading into their conference tournament. Here is their resume.
Overall record 23-31
SOS #2
Non Conference RPI 36
Quad 1 record 8-22
Quad 2 record 7-5
They were never in the discussion for NCAA tournament, but just based on RPI, they were at least in the area where teams that are on the bubble are.
Their name.....Florida State.

And they missed the tournament for the first time in 44 years. Crazy!

amen!
Re: Cajuns path to the NCAA tourney each year
perfect example right now in MLB. Toronto blue jays are in last place in AL east, but have same record as the leaders in the AL Central, the AL East isnt crying to take the AL Central’s postseason slot

That is crazy, 44 years straight. But it shows the flaws in the RPI. FSU should not have been that high RPI based on their outcomes, but because of who they played they were there.

also all teams must have same number of home and away games, cant choose their own opponents and not play others to help their rpi, and cant “recruit” teams from other divisions to join theirs

Forever tied with their friends at The U for the record….and not one national title for the Noles
