How did it finish? Parenting duties called before the end.

It may be a little too early to judge, but the history seems to be repeating itself again. average at the plate average defensively and good on the mound. the positive is we won and were able to comeback to win. we have some work to do though

Someone here (cajunhawk) judged the Saints season based off of the 1st preseason game and look at how that turned out. 1st game of the season is always a little different than the season. Lets all see how the OOC games go before we start judging this team....just sayin....

Re: UL vs. Nichols State Baseball
C'mon you guys. Sometimes, you gotta give credit where credit is due. Nichols came out, threw there best guy (who was a lefty, with whom we struggled last season), they played solid defense for 7 innings, and they capitalized on our mistakes. They played well, we played poorly... we won the game. Our depth came into play, Marze looked really good at times. Yes, bone head play at 1st in the 8th, but thats something thats going to happen when you have guys playing together for the first time in game situations. Porrier was a mixed bag. Made some outstanding plays the hot corner; while at the same time, making really awful throws. I think he'll come around. Hitting in baseball is like offense in football: The first few games, the defense (pitchers) have the upper hand. The bats will come around. I'm not saying we'll be Arizona St at the plate, but we're better than what we showed last night.
I thought Brian Bowman showed that he can be a contributor all year if healthy, and how about Zachy O. Guy was dominant, including the errors. Really gave up about 2 hits all night. Can't wait to see Jud give it a go this afternoon!
Re: UL vs. Nichols State Baseball
I was pretty impressed with Osborne. He showed good movement and velocity. Save for Porier's first error, no runs on Osborne. Marze looked ok against em and might be a good middle reliever. Defense, Switzenbergerererer needs to be at 3rd. Thats what we brought him in for. Maybe Porier can handle first but I dont see him at 3rd anymore. The hitting, well, when they came out, it looked like everyone, and I mean everyone thought this was home run derby and they were all trying for the fences. Goulas is the only one who came close. I guess Tony went upside their heads and said just try and get on base cause the bottom of the 8th was a thing of beauty. I like this team. I think we are a great pitching team, can be a great defensive team, and if we dont swing for the track field, we can be a great hitting team. Lets get to the postseason boys!!!!

Hard to tell from the online streaming, but it looked like Marze had closer velocity. If his location can improve and he has good movement ...

Marze has always had good velocity, he showed well at the Cross Checker Show Case in Baton Rouge the summer of his senior year. His problem has been control and consistant movement.

The radar gun at the Tigue had him at 83-85 mph but it looked like about 87-88 mph to me.
