Baylor's OWP contribution is .78049 (32-9), while UTA will be .41861 (18-25). This comes to a combined .59955 weighted by six games (provided all three games vs. UTA are played). And certainly ... the Cajuns' OWP improves with this contribution of games.


This is big. But it is particularly big because, at present, they are RPI Top 25 wins ... much better than just Top 75 (third bonus tier of .0014). However, for bonus purposes, Baylor is not far from falling out of the Top 25 ... as they were #19 entering the game.

If the two losses knocks Baylor out of the Top 25 ... the Cajuns will receive an RPI bonus of .0021 * 2 = .0042. If Baylor remains in the Top 25 ... the Cajuns will receive an RPI bonus of .0028 * 2 = .0056.

Entering the week, the Cajuns were .00491 behind Oregon at #5 (the RPI bonus alone closes this gap), and .01015 away from UCLA at #4 (the RPI bonus alone closes half the gap). Meanwhile, more separation from Michigan and Florida State.

Ditto! I feel like I'm starting to catch onto all this RPI crap a little thanks to a guy who can break it down as well as you can. So, from what you said above. It sounds like all the Ladies need to do is stay in pace with where they are & the separation will naturally occur with the ones they are fighting from below. I guess that is assuming we win & they don't win as much. It sounds like the bottom line for both the guys & gals is just win baby!

No … the additional separation from Michigan and Florida State I mentioned was as a result of the wins over Baylor last night. Those wins provided the max RPI bonus (provided Baylor stays in the Base RPI Top 25) and gave a boost to the Base RPI. This just gives us a buffer for what is to come. Everyone in the vicinity of the Cajuns has a better remaining schedule than the Cajuns (even Michigan and Florida State). So the Cajuns just need to win their remaining six games (UT-Arlington and ULM) and hope it is enough to stave off the schools behind the Cajuns. I am optimistic … because unlike 2012, RPI bonuses are no longer awarded for conference wins against the RPI Top XX. If this were 2012, by the end of the regular season I think the Cajuns would be several spots lower … outside the RPI Top 10.

Of course, as I mentioned previously, the new conference tournament format will help … as we may get some additional good RPI games against South Alabama (as well as WKU and/or Georgia State) … without the bad ones against the dregs of the conference.
