They no longer have to take the champ.

There is no bigger bowl for us, when we get our next 3 wins, we will get the New Orleans Bowl invite on Thursday night at home after the Troy victory. We will not be Tech and say we want to wait and see if we get a "better" invite. Playing Saturday night primetime is better than Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday.
Don't think we're on a level of "opting" out of bowl games. Let's win the conference first. Then next season, let's beat a BCS opponents. During these times of still working the program up, we'll play whatever bowl wants us and try to continue the unblemished record in bowl games.
I hope in a few weeks we get to have this discussion... but these "better bowl" scenarioes are simply not that available. Bowl tie-ins rule the day. It takes having the non eligibles from other conferences to be considered. Those don't become available until the conference championships are complete and the full bowl deck shuffle gets done. I'm not saying that if we ran the tables we wouldn't have some remote potential at a "better bowl"... but that is truly a long shot... if you take a close look at bowl / conference tie-ins.
And, we'll have this facing us. If we ask the NO Bowl to wait on us, they are left contemplating an invite to another SBC program that has to make all of their ticket sales and reservations at the very last minute. Do not be surprised if the NO Bowl and our administration discuss this at length... with the conclusion being... UL is in the NO Bowl.
If we do run the tables... the discussion on this board is not going to be "what bowl are we going to"... it's going to be some whining about the fact that we accepted the NO Bowl invite "too soon". And those people would be wrong IMO.
I also expect the Nola invite to come early considering our last game is dec 6th, only 2 weeks from the New Orleans bowl.
If we don't face Tulane in the New Orleans bowl, would you want to see LSUuuuuuuuu in the Independence Bowl? Just curious.
GEAUX CAJUNS!!!
LSU is still a legit Top 15 program, at least. They happen to play in the best conference in college football, which is where their 2 losses come from. We got hammered by Arkansas and K-State. Also, I don't see LSU having to settle for an invite to Indy Bowl.
Hopefully one day we'd be at a level to compete with them, but there's much work to be done.
