More than anything else, UL's softball team will be looking to regain its homefield magic tonight.
The Ragin' Cajuns (28-8), having moved up in both of this week's national polls, haven't played at Lamson Park since a disappointing pair of losses to Middle Tennessee two weeks ago in a Sun Belt Conference series.
Those were the first two home losses after 13 straight home wins to start the season, and UL will look to start another streak at 6 p.m. today in a single game against Southern Mississippi (10-20).
UL stands 15th in both the USA Today/NFCA and the ESPN.com/USA Softball polls this week, moving up two spots in the NFCA rankings and one in the USA Softball list. Those moves came after going 4-1 in last weekend's Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif., a streak that included wins over Fresno State, second-ranked Arizona State, Notre Dame and Penn State.

UL lost to fifth-ranked Arizona 9-0 in the semifinals, but obviously did enough in pool play and early in the championship bracket to provide a boost heading into a six-game homestand.
"We've said all along that it's about how we play and not about our opponents," said Cajun coach Stefni Lotief. "We played pretty well for most of that tournament, and we're looking forward to getting back home."
Three of those home games come in Sun Belt play, with UL hosting Western Kentucky in a 1 p.m. Saturday doubleheader and an 11:30 a.m. single game Sunday. The Cajuns are in a four-way tie for the Sun Belt lead at 4-2, even with Troy, Middle Tennessee and North Texas.
Junior designated player Holly Tankersley, who earned her fourth Sun Belt Player of the Week honor this week, leads the Cajuns with a .370 average after hitting .400 in the Garman meet. She also turned in a complete-game pitching victory against Notre Dame.
Brittany Cuevas (17-4, 1.91) is expected to get tonight's start against the Golden Eagles, who lost two of three games to South Florida last weekend and were scheduled to meet McNeese State in a Wednesday evening twinbill.
