I’m having to assume that you meant out of conference when you said independent. If so, who do you expect them to play? Just curious.

This is partly the Universities fault for not advertising our strengths and getting people to notice our achievements, but at some point the community needs to step up and own what has been built here for 125 years. We are the second largest public university in the state, one of only 3 R1 schools (Tulane, UL, LSU) with very good academics and very good athletics.

Honestly all we lack is the proper fan support in the area to get to the next level. That's on the community for not embracing it's own, a community that supposedly prides itself on it's unique culture yet can't support the school with the cultures name on it and history behind it!

I'm not defending the administration either, a ton needs to be done on that end, but it all starts and ends with the people that live in the area, especially alumni.

I've lived and traveled around the country and been to most of the "Major" colleges. Only thing separating us is the mentality that we are not "Major".

Average Lafayette person looks at UL the same way the dinosaurs at NCAA, ESPN, etc look at us..

"Yeah they're 11-1, and they're a cute little team down there with their funny name and everything.. but if they played Missouri ten times, would they win more than 1 or 2 times, if at all?"

Continuing this foolish pursuit of convincing people that we are a nationally competitive athletic program is a waste of time. You won't convince locals because you'll never convince nationals. To them we are a great value brand Boise State in a small metro market, not worthy of more than a passing "down in the bayou at Lah-fie-yett" comment

Fix tailgate. Fix GameDay. Create a party worth spending money to attend. Stop this charade of worrying about impressing or offending people outside of Lafayette. They will always look at us like a funny looking stepchild anyway

Exactly !! I don’t care if Florida uses a Gator, or Saints use a FDL, or LaTech uses the state.

They are playing other majors, that is fine, just don't pretend they arent.
