Oh, and Jay, UNI has recently been a 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament coming from the Missouri Valley Conference, without winning the Tournament. I am calling BS on the "Mid-Majors can't get an at large any more".

Never said mid majors can't get an at large. I was talking about our league and those comparable in strength.. The MVC is a top ten rated league. That means plenty.
Also, 2008 was a long time ago. The Stephens Center in LR was built around then too. They got a lot of bang for the buck at 26 mil. But not the kind of bang we'd be looking for, especially with Melrock's design.
Want to know how much a good one costs today? Check out what Troy spent for their 4,000 seat facility.

Construction costs differ depending on your location.
Re: How much $ does it take to buy a quality home game?
My understanding is to renovate BC you would need to replace the ceiling/roof. You would not be able to hang the type of scoreboards that are used today with the TV screens and such without replacing the roof. If you have to replace the roof you have to replace the walls and such, cheaper to build a new one.

My design is a pipe dream and I do not expect it to ever happen. That being said if we are going to dream dream big. Hopefully I will hit the lottery one day. I guess I need to start playing the lottery if I want to win.

OK.
A new one it is.
I think the focus should be bang for the buck and not duplicating things. This should be a basketball only facility. Suites, Seating, Court, Restrooms, Locker rooms, Concessions. Nothing else needed. The APC is right there. Make it seat about 7k.
I don't want a palace. I don't want a cavern. I want the Deaf Dome. I want Cameron Indoor. I want opposing teams to shudder at the thought of having to play in Shipley. I couldn't care less about amenities. I just wanna kick some arse.

Jay, if we played NIU's OOC schedule, going 8-5, we could get an at large from the Sun Belt; just not a 5.

Recent history says otherwise.
Re: How much $ does it take to buy a quality home game?
i wouldnt cap our seating at anything under 8,000. we were under .500 4 years ago and have a crowd of larger than 8,000. so a 4-5000 seat facility is short sighted. i think it needs to be around 8000
