Because we haven’t had a QB who can make all the throws. See more of the field and get through progressions as quickly as Fields or Wooldridge.

Students showed up. The rest of that side of the stadium may have been a little light with less SLU fans but the students showed up and stayed well after halftime which has not been that common in the past.

If we can establish a legit run game I think Fields gmhas the tools to win. But at our level you sometimes live or die by the QB play. I’ve said for a while now LL was taken for granted by many people.
I agree with you, especially about Levi but one thing I will say is that LL had a great running game to work with that could open up the deep ball and playaction game which he was great at. If we don't do something with the OL and find a couple of backs that can make plays, Fields nor Woolridge will have that luxury and will have to shoulder more of the burden this year.

100% agree. Run game is critical

Coach Dez said at the QB Club meeting that the 3rd QB each week will switch between Zeon Chriss and Zy McDonald. From that comment, I presume LL2 is not even in the conversation to see playing time at QB. Hope is to redshirt Chriss. He can play in four games and maintain the redshirt.

I hope they move Hunter out to TE

Re: Live Game Talk Final: Louisiana 24, SLU 7
Levi was great and we will definitely miss his sack escapability. He was elite at that and did not make many mistakes as far as turning the ball over. However we do gain some things with Fields that we just didn’t have with Lewis. Some of the throws Fields made on Saturday just would not have been made last year. I will take a better arm and accuracy every day over speed and elusiveness at the qb position. Lewis was great but Fields can also be great and i believe we can be even more successful with him leading the team.

I think Fields did a decent job against average to below average competition. He has promise given the weather condition, first game starting and new coaches. I saw him make some good passes on the run that we haven't seen in a while he was keeping his eyes down field. I also seen him hold on to the ball when he had wide open players in his line of site or maybe he couldn't see over the defender I don't know. He's not Broadway or LL he is Chandler Fields one start guy. I'm not trying to knock him nor am I making him out to be the savior. CMD makes the decisions not me so I'll give it a few games before I complain or praise CF. I was never a LL fan but I'll say I really missed some of the things he did on Saturday nights at Cajun Field. I want CF or whoever mike plays at QB to succeed and keep the streak going. JMO

LL2.0 had gloves on the entire game...something QBs don't normally do...

Not sure what you are talking about, I didn't say he wasn't in my comments. Maybe you are replying about someone else's comments.

Well said and I was a big Lewis fan from the first time I saw him make the Miss. State defenders look silly in that superdome game.
I just like the prototypical qb assets that Fields brings to the table. Yea I wish he was taller but really impressed with what I have seen in limited game action so far.

One thing that was clear is playing 2 QBs got chandler out of his rhythm and definitely affected the offensive production.

There were definitely diminished returns from that move but all in all the plan worked for a doubleU

Re: Live Game Talk Final: Louisiana 24, SLU 7
We're in good hands with Chandler. I saw shades of a young Blaine Gauthier.
He has enough wiggle and speed to be a 10 yard threat to get a first down and keep the sticks moving. I also like how he utilizes the middle of the field.
Excited to see the growth of Fields and CMD. Geaux Cajuns

Maybe so, but you would hope in a game vs an opponent like SLU (who has legit FBS talent in the secondary) you can do things like that to help your QB2 get some snaps in case you need him later in the season.
I like that Coach Dez went into the game with that outlook. I expect we won’t see Wooldridge this coming weekend unless we’re up by a very good bit in the 4th Q. So….I hope we see him, in that capacity.

Ben will get the third series. It is in the scrip.

Not kidding. He can play the role that Nick Ralston played for the Cajuns. I saw Hunter play 4 times in high school. He is a runner with power not a D1 QB.

Well…our previous HC did that and the following two seasons we finished in the Top 20.
I’d be surprised to see Coach Dez follow that all season long, but for the first three games, I get it.
If Fields does go down this season (hope not), we might be thankful Wooldridge got some reps vs 1st team Ds.

Ralston played fullback. I've never seen a 6'5" fullback before. I know he's a runner, but too light to be a full time ball carrier much less a blocking back, which fullbacks do more than run with the ball.

I am not saying you are wrong, but if you are right I suspect it is mostly psychological.
What is the difference in Chandler being on the sideline for that period of time and a situation where an opponent has an 11 minute drive. Does that ruin the opposing QB?

Re: Live Game Talk Final: Louisiana 24, SLU 7
You know for all the let's back Des talk that I was subjected to this past summer, there is an awful lot of armchair coaching going on right now. I happen to agree with every single decision That Des made this past Saturday night. I'll tell you why. He's a new coach of a team he's familiar with, but has to learn more about new players & what they can accept on the field.
At no point in that game did the thought cross my mind that UL wasn't completely in charge & had the ability to turn on a set of burners we didn't see. And we didn't see them for a reason. the coach decided to get a good look at both of his young QBs &give them both a chance to gain confidence for when the games really start to count. I also loved his decision to go for it deep in SLU territory when they got stopped.
I'm actually kind of glad the play didn't work either. It produced a coachable teaching & learning moment for Des to have in his back pocket for later on. The man must learn what his players can do under fire & still build confidence in his team. If I were to compare him to the bozo 50 miles away who just allowed his young team's confidence to be destroyed, I would say Des flew his first solo flight with very few strategical errors & has his team right where he wants them as this point in the season. they have the confidence to know they can win & turn it up if needed. And they have the experience of getting the knots out of their stomachs. Great job Mike Desormeaux.
