The USM game will be the most important game of the year. Not because it's the first game (although it is!!), but because that game will set the stage for EVERYTHING that happens the entire rest of the season. A win will put this team in as good a position as it's been since they beat UHou a couple years ago. The question will then be, does THIS CAJUNS team take that win as true inspiration for the rest of the season and play like EVERY game is a BOWL game, or do they allow themselves to fall back into the mediocrity they've been swimming in for the last 6 years?? Of course, if they lose the USM game, especially if it is CLOSE, what do they do THEN???
I agree. I tend to feel with our leadership at skill positions and a D that can only get better, I feel we are better than Middle and will prove it. I just don't see Monroe being that much better than us. Correct me if I'm wrong. I believe if Mike is qb in that game, we win last year. I thoroughly think we can win the conference however this regime has not given us any prolonged reason to optimistic.
Hey Cajun fans. Saw 'rhineaux' post over on EagleTalk and figured I'd take his invitation (or bait, we'll see) to start chatting with some of you fellas.
We're all looking forward to the 30th, can't get here fast enough I say. Finally get to see the new expansion filled up with fans instead of construction workers too! :)
Anyways, if you guys have any questions about the area, feel free to ask. I'm only a Senior at USM right now, but I'll do my best to answer them.
Glad to see I'm not the only Eagle poster in these parts SE.
I'll admit though, I do think the 14 pt. spread is a little generous. Obviously, I'm going to say we're taking this convincingly, but Bower taught me never to let my expectations get too high. I'm hoping Coach Fedora can make Hattiesburg a tough place to play. Bower-ball got stale.
Aug. 30th can't come fast enough. :)

NEW ORLEANS - Michael Desormeaux took a few minutes on Monday at the Sun Belt Conference Football Media Days to glance at the media guides for each team in the league.
The senior quarterback liked some. Others not so much.
Desormeaux agreed that UL's cover looked the best with senior running back Tyrell Fenroy standing in UL's on-campus swamp, Cypress Lake, holding a football. Next to Fenroy, listed as an All-America candidate, is a sign that says
"Caution, alligator habitat. Keep pets out of the lake. Watch children. Do not feed alligators. Please feed Fenroy the ball. Thank you."

It was a tribute to former Ragin' Cajun standout Brian Mitchell, who was featured on the cover of the 1989 media guide in a photo taken in the same location.
On the back, Desormeaux is standing between senior kicker Drew Edmiston and senior linebacker Brent Burkhalter in another photo at Cypress Lake.
"It's something that's got some home flavor to it," Desormeaux said. "(Fenroy) is very deserving to be on the cover. I hope by the end of the year he really is an All-America candidate.
"I think that could very well happen if he stays healthy and has the kind of year we think he's capable of having."
Fenroy is the nation's only active player with three 1,000-yard seasons, a feat only 16 players have already reached going into their season year. He's also second among active players with 3,271 career rushing yards.
Going into the 2008 season Fenroy needs 65 yards to pass Mitchell and become the program's all-time leading rusher. With another 780 yards on the ground he will move past former North Texas standout Patrick Cobbs as the Sun Belt's career rushing leader.
Only six players in NCAA history - Tony Dorsett, Amos Lawrence, Denvis Manns, Ron Dayne, Cedric Benson and DonTrell Moore - have topped 1,000 rushing yards in four seasons.
UL coach Rickey Bustle also appreciated the Cajun media guide cover.
"I thought it was cool," he said. "It was something different. I think we should incorporate that swamp more often."
Florida Atlantic quarterback Rusty Smith said he was glad to be back in New Orleans on Monday.
In his previous trip to the city, Smith led the Owls to a 44-27 win against Memphis in the New Orleans Bowl. Smith threw for 336 yards and tied the bowl record with five touchdown passes to garner game MVP honors.
That performance capped a stellar sophomore season in which Smith passed for 3,688 yards and 32 touchdowns and was named the league's player of the year.
On Monday, Smith was honored as the league's preseason offensive player of the year.
Desormeaux spent some time talking on Monday with UL Monroe senior tight end Zeek Zacharie, one of his former teammates at Catholic High in New Iberia.
Both stood out on the field last season, earning second team all-conference honors. Desormeaux led the Cajuns with 1,141 rushing yards and finished second in the conference with 123.2 yards per game on the ground against league opponents.
Zacharie topped the Warhawks in touchdown catches (six) and was second with 486 receiving yards. After making the John Mackey Watch List in the preseason, he twice named the John Mackey Tight End of the Week.
"We were just reminiscing," Zacharie said. "It's kind of ironic that we're both here (for Media Days). Best friends stick together."
After conducting media interviews on Monday, Desormeaux hoped to spend some time at the National World War II Museum.
Last season the Sun Belt gained national attention for its play against non-conference opponents.
Troy beat Oklahoma State. FAU downed Minnesota. ULM stunned Alabama.
There will be more chances for the conference to pull some upsets this season.
UL plays Illinois and Kansas State. Arkansas State goes against Texas A&M and Alabama. FAU (Texas, Michigan State, Minnesota), ULM (Auburn, Arkansas, Ole Miss), North Texas (LSU, Kansas State, Tulsa) and Troy (LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma State) also have tough non-conference schedules.
Middle Tennessee has big matchups against Maryland, Kentucky, Louisville and Mississippi State.
"I think our conference has really developed and is getting better," ULM coach Charlie Weatherbie said. "We were blessed to be able to go in and beat Alabama last year in their own backyard.
"But that is in the past. We've got to move on."
Western Kentucky must wait until 2009 before officially joining the Sun Belt Conference, but coach David Elson and junior running back Tyrell Hayden were on hand for this week's Media Days.
Hayden rushed for a team-best 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns on 205 carries last season. His rushing yardage ranked ninth on the school's single-season list as the Hilltoppers went 7-5.
