Thanks Helmut. In the early 80's I had an apartment on Taft between Denbo & University. Your pictures have been a great reminder of the times spent there. As someone who only gets by campus during the football season now, it has been a great way to stay informed. Once again, thanks for your time & effort.

this is a pic from inside one of the bedrooms in new baker, couldnt get a better shot during our walkthrough but this gives a general idea theres another bed just like that one to camera left

I got my "La Louisiane" in the mail this morning. It has several articles about all the construction on campus including the Student Union renovation. Really good and informative.

At a STATE FARM reception for incoming students outside of new dorm, I talked to a employee from the company handling the new dorm---I told him of the juxtaposition photo and that he could find it on R-Pagin---He was most anxious to check it out!!!!

No problem, I kind of prefer being in the background. If you click on the photo in Ragin Pagin thread it should take you directly to the fliker photo stream. I have used two photo streams because they limit you to 200 photos before they start charging a fee. The photos are not restricted and anybody can use them at any time. So help yourself.

I have met the General Superintendent for the project and gave him 3 CD's worth of photos from Jan 2 to August 6. If you see the guy again tell him to check with Troy.

I recommend a copy go to the Dupre Library-----AND I looked around to the back and was stunned at the progress on the other new dorm!!!!

Yes new Huger is progressing rapidly. I have found it difficult to capture because (up until today) I couldn't get far enough away to capture the scope of work because other buildings or trees were in the way. However, today that has changed as you will see.

Lots and lots of stuff to show today. Since the new Parking garage is partially open to the public I was able to get better camera angles on new Huger and New Baker dorms.

Demolition of Rose Garden dorms has started.

Evangeline Hall was leveled today in about an hour. Here are two views of what is left.

Demolition of Baker Dorm was started but they uncovered some steel beams covered with fireproofing material. They stopped until they could run a test to see if it contained Asbestos. (It probably does).

The steel with the potential ACM is the horizontal member to the left of the top of what was a stair well. This is one of the Hays Town dorms that caused the fuss in the paper last week. There is nothing extraordinary about these buildings. Once all the landscaping is removed the buildings look like they were from his Auschwitz period (LOL). If they had not found the potential ACM this building would have been leveled today also.

Meant to say this earlier but I just got home after 2 weeks of working in Ohio. Know that the pictures were greatly appreciated while I was up there.

I finally got a chance to drive by the other day and it really was impressive in person. The new dorms are large, well done, and they fit in well with the rest of campus. And the parking garage is well hidden behind the massive oaks and not overly imposing. It looks great and will continue to look great for years to come.

Almost finished renovated front of OK Allen Hall. The brick work to he left is for a planter that hides a handicapped ramp. This building will house Student health services and counseling and testing. Two services that are currently in building scheduled for demolition for the Student Union renovation.

Tropical Storm Lee dropped 8.5 inches of rain on the site from Friday to Sunday. These are a few photos taken on Monday September 5, 2011. Looks like Asbestos has demolition ground to a halt. Maybe we will see some progress this coming week.

sure they can have it hidden by landscaping but you certainly don't like to have areas that can potentially be problems, this was definitely a mistake

To be fair, they don't plan on completing the landscaping here until they finish both dorms. However, it does not appear to be well thought out. We will see if the same thing happens on Huger at the same spot. If it does then it was intended to be that way and if not then they made a mistake on Baker. (Or they figured out a better way to do it on Huger)

Brick work and other exterior work is finishing up. Looks like they got some precast concrete accent pieces in this week.

Literally a ton of copper went into this building. I don't think they are finished yet. Because copper is so expensive, empty spools are the only spools they leave out like this.
