Too bad it game wasn’t on a Saturday. It would have been a great environment.
Agree, their student turnout was great. Loud too. Thinned out in the second half, but I heard a bunch of them in the concourse saying they were leaving to go watch the World Series. Uhhh…ok.

Someone asked me this morning in comparison between Woolridge and Lewis. I told him that Lewis still gets the edge for his championship season and some of the things he was able to do off script. But there is no comparison in reading defenses and calling audibles at the line. Woolridge is like having another coach on the field.

It's a very important year 3, where the first 2 years were, let's say, less than ideal. It was easy to see where he was falling short. Making mistakes. His limited ability to get coaches outside his personal friends/ex teammates/coaches. And even though this year we still saw a lot of areas that needed fixing, it seemed to me that he had reached another level. Still a bit leary, because of the level of completion, there seemed something different about this team and staff. And last night, in a game that was very important in order to stay in the race for a conference title, against a pretty good team, on the road, in a game nationally broadcasted . . . we didn't just show up. And yes, despite still seeing areas that need to be fixed, we're not just showing up and winning . . . we're learning how to FINISH! I'm so damn excited to see how this season ends! I believe we took a "next step". Every game is important from here on out, and none may be bigger than that ULM game, believe it or not. Running the table is a distinct reality. A playoff spot is still a possibility I believe. This season is starting to feel . . . special! This year just feels different. Either way . . . . . . GEAUX CAJUNS!!!!
LETS F'ing FINISH!!!!!!!!
I've learned not to get my blood pressure up with his play calling at times and the defensive schemes called. The major argument against him from those that were not supporting him or had questions concerning his ability to win in the 4th quarter in close games. Well, this year he has not lost a game leading by 7 points or less in the 4th quarter. He is who he is, but we are winning and that's all that matters in the end.

Is there any way to get Ben one more year? Can we get him on the “Justin Venable” program?

Lewis was better at broken plays. Ben is better at making sure there are minimal broken plays.

Bingo.
Levi's escape abilities were off the chart.

There are always some head scratching play calls, but he’s a better play caller than Napier. I said what I said.

We can debate that another time. We won, but no he is not as consistent as Napier in his last two years.

…….So putting our starters against the NILers…….at QB-Woo vs Chris……RB Washington vs Johnson….. WR Lacy and Fleming vs LL and choose one…..Please add any more! Think we filled it out pretty good!

Napier was saved numerous times from his play calling by his magician qb and sheer ass luck.

We are winning. We can have this discussion after the season.

Boomer, we are winning. If you want to see who is playing, look at the classification of the starters on both sides of the football. The majority of 5th year juniors and seniors are Napier recruits. Now that has nothing to do with the call sheet, but since you brought it up.

Well the only 5th year starters recruited under Des would be transfers and I know there are some. And of all the starters recruited under Napier, how many were actually recruited by Des?
I don’t see a recruiting issue. We might lose potential recruits that we wouldn’t have before nil. Just like we might lose some transfers now as well.

……Maybe missing my point…..we lost some guys that would be on the UL team this year…..my point is that we have replaced those that left with some damn good players…..ergo pretty damn good job of recruiting/keeping starters!111

Never mentioned it was right? Boomer brought it up. We will learn how well he and his staff have recruited next season when a number of his recruits will have key positions. I have discussed his recruiting over the last few years, the last two have been pretty good.JMO

I’m not saying it’s right or wrong. Just pointing out Des has his hand in a lot of the recruiting on the field right now. After 2 down years with napiers recruits I’m not giving him any credit now that Des has turned this ship around.

Levi also had as many as 4 current NFL linemen (3 current NFL starters) blocking for him
That along with his mobility allowed for some nice free lancing

Those lineman and some absolute stud RBs also helped Napier’s play calling.

It's so weird hearing people rip Napier. Like, I get that you're upset how things happened when he left, but it's a business. Adapt or die. But all this denigrating Napier . . . the coach that brought us the greatest stretch of success this program has ever seen. . . by a long shot . . . was just . . . LUCKY???? LoL! FFS! I've heard it all, now.

I'd rather him finish this season healthy than the alternative that would get him that

Nobody said he was “just” lucky. But you are just not remembering those years accurately if you don’t remember many questionable in game decisions and lucky bounces that went our (and his) way during that run. Napier to date is our best coach ever, and it’s not even close. But he wasn’t perfect, and was DEFINITELY the recipient of more than his share of good fortune during our two year run.
Dez is a better offensive coach than Napier. Remains to be seen if he develops into a better overall program manager. Napier was a genius at that.
So let me get the forum rules straight….we can run down the current coach in the middle of a 7-1 start, but even suggesting the former coach wasn’t perfect is “ripping” him?
-
Re: LGT Final: Louisiana 23, Texas State 17
Its not a "forum rules" thing, its an individual recollection perception thing.
My recall is that Napier had to gamble a lot on 4th down because of how often he failed to get the 10 yards in 3 downs.
Without those successful 4th down conversions, we are telling a very different Napier story.
