100% agree. Going for 2 was absolutely the right call.
Just rewatched game.....
Offense: less the 2nd quarter int, and a handful of errant throws to open receivers offensively for 3.5 quarters we actually did quite well. Could tell Ben was making RPO calls at line correctly. We scored and moved the ball as well, if not better than OU the week before in those 3.5 quarters.
Last 2 possessions were the difference. Ben looked lost /hesitant when Tulane predictably blitzed. Receivers were open
Defense:
Inability to stop 1 running back lost this game. Period. It wasnt our offense or going for 2. It was 100% that bull Tulane had at RB and their OL doing enough to get him moving forward. Also we put pressure on Mensah often and it effected his accuracy or forced short attempts but not getting any sacks? None at all was painful. We absolutely needed big plays on D to neutralize that bull's effectiveness and it never happened

31 game changing scenario points were scored AFTER the playing not to lose decision to go for two with a whole half left to play.
You don't look at "still down a" two minutes after halftime.
That early, tooooo many things can happen in the rest of the game where one point becomes the difference between winning and losing.

Re: Live Game Talk: Louisiana vs. Tulane
The 2 point conversion didn’t cost us the game. It could have and maybe wasn’t a good decision. At the time Dez said in his post game that he thought points were at a premium. He wanted to cut it to 3 points there. He said the play call there was on him.
KO return TD and pick 6’s might happen once a year. I don’t recall the last time we gave up either one. They happened on back to back possessions for Tulane. That’s hard to overcome against an equal to/better opponent. It happened and it sucks. I would have liked to see more in the box and safety blitzes in the 2nd half to try and stop the run.
This team can sure up a few things and absolutely run the table. There are 5 G5’s left undefeated. Army, navy(play each other and ND) Liberty plays app next week. Unlv plays Boise,Fresno st, Oregon state. JMU(probably has the best chance to run the table). Let’s win out and let the chips fall.

Re: Live Game Talk: Louisiana vs. Tulane
Also I’d add tackling must be hard when it’s 130 degrees on the field and everyone is sweating and slippery. Not an excuse, we have to tackle better.
We have 3 300lbers to rotate at NT, I don’t think our DL is considered under sized

EXACTLY RIGHT. I still say we win this game if we hadn't given up that pick-6 and the kickoff return to start the second half. Let's clean up the mistakes and go beat the 'Deacs!!

Re: Live Game Talk: Louisiana vs. Tulane
Going for two meant Nothing to this games outcome. I was 100% behind decision. Passes made us look juvenile. It never fails, we simply look like the forward pass is a new concept to us in the Swamp. Tell Cajun Fields and Lunch to get loose. Best opportunity ever to take down Wake.
If 1 Texas can put Arch on field, we can go to Lunchtime.

Very true, but in the future that early on kind of "playing catch-up" thinking will cost games.
And even though it did not cost the game, 37 mixed scoring points later a backs to the wall "must make" 2 point conversion just to keep the game going would have been created.
But you are 100% accurate when you say "The 2 point conversion didn’t cost us the game."

"meant Nothing" is right, but that doesn't make it right.
So you expected a shut out the rest of the way by Louisiana's defense and field goal by the offense?
That would mean one was content to play for overtime two minutes into the second half.
Those calls should be reserved for when no more scoring is expected, like in the last two minutes of the second half, not the first two minutes of the second half when 31 more points were to be scored.

Re: Live Game Talk: Louisiana vs. Tulane
I can dig up the receipts if need be but over the summer I said Louisiana will start SBC play at 3-1. I said we would split the Tulane / WF game, but that I hoped we would beat Tulane. I’m not backing off that prediction…Louisiana goes up to WF this weekend and gets the dub. Book it.

Texas put Arch on the field for the monrovians. YOU could've been the qb in that game! Ben's put up the best numbers against Tulane so far. Some bad decisions and 2 huge mistakes cost us this game.

We will lose next week and finish the season with 5-6 wins.
Also I no longer care about W and L. In the end it doesn’t matter. If we finish 10-2 or 6-6, we will play in the same bowl games, against the same teams.
Our admin has made it clear they don’t care about growing the fan base and without that, nothing else matters. We will forever be just another G5 and that’s fine.
The only unacceptable thing that happened yesterday is that the admin F’d up the game day experience when regardless of the W/L, it could have been a great day for the fans.

Negative. I'd cramp up on way to first huddle then overheat on way back.

Not me. I wasn't thinking of game final one bit. Momentum was there, get 2. Enough about that, meant Nothing. Passing game is not adequate for plays called.

Re: Live Game Talk: Louisiana vs. Tulane
I think the game shows we deserve to be in talks when top G5 teams are mentioned. Pick 6 and KR for TD separated us. Sucks to lose that game, but I still feel good about the season moving forward.
We need to manufacture some takeaways on defense, and I know that directly correlates to pressuring the QB.
That throw for the pick 6 looks like it was a miscommunication between Wooldridge and Terrance Carter. Encouraging to drive back down the field before half and get some points, although we had 2 good chances for a TD.
But that Tulane KR was extremely deflating coming out of half.

Re: Live Game Talk: Louisiana vs. Tulane
Just reading that K.C. Ossai missed the second half with an upper body injury. That makes sense as to how much they ran the ball down our throats in the second half. We need him back asap.

Didn't even realize that while at the game. That was a huge loss as he is our best backer and also limited our subs which we needed when playing on 125 degree turf

Plus he calls out the adjustments.

Texas put Arch in because Ewers was injured in the 1st half last week. He is week to week right now. And Texas has a TON of top tier talent surrounding any QB.
Lunch (from what I’ve read) has an arm injury of some sort.

At WR, Harvey Broussard should be in on damn near every snap.
100 % agree. If you want to win, you have to play your best. Bill is our best.

Re: Live Game Talk: Louisiana vs. Tulane
I just want to clarify that K.C. being out the 2nd half is not why they completely ran all over us. Their OL had a huge push. But it would have helped greatly.

This. Their OL bullied our DL.

I stated ad nauseum for Des to start Zeon before the start of last season. Neither Ben nor Fields are game changers. I'd have much rathered start Zeon and let him learn last year. This rationale that you gotta start "the veteran" guy "just because", didn't work did it? Because they were gonna give us a better chance to win? How'd that work out? Another mediocre season. But hey, now we have these "vets" that are keeping us mediocre. Is it squarely on the QB? Of course not. But now Zeon is gone and we're stuck with the same "game managers". I just want to know how and where we have improved as a team under Des. It's year 3 and it's the SAME story. Same struggles. Not sure how anyone couldn't see this was going to be the result. I know it's still early and the season isn't over, and I honestly was very optimistic that this year would be different. But so far, it's the same crap. First 2 games/opponents was fools gold. Just incredibly frustrating that we blew an incredible opportunity to seize the moment to capitalize on our success under Napier and did what we do. . . we USL'd it.

Napier was fools gold, he just got out before we could get the Jeweler to put that little solution on him to test him . . .
