I don't see Logan at second. He looked ok at second but not strong enough for what I want in a second baseman defensively. We really need Logan's speed in center and for his size he really has a strong arm. We are also not very deep with experience in the outfield. Gisclair is strong on defense, Hatfield slow but strong arm, Whipple inexperience and I have not seen enough to judge is defense, Harst played catcher last year, Miller I have not seen enough yet either, and Bowman is the wild card.
Bowman has all the tools to be a great player. From what I have seen Bowman will be very good on defense, but he is a true freshman. He did miss play line drive in game 3 of the series that lead to a double or triple that almost cost the Black team a win. Bowman will be something special though.

I definately agree. Greg has a good chance of getting starting SS. Coach chooses glove over bat a lot. He knows that errors can hurt in the end. He may not pull a guy out right away like Lee does but if you don't improve by the next game you won't be starting. I think Benzel has a better chance at third then Derouen. Derouen has just been slow in the past at that hot cornor. I would like to see what Hicks and Fontenot can do together at 2nd and SS. I'd like to see another team like Bourque and Parker. I liked Scott at 1st. He's great at stretching and using all that height to stop balls from getting past him. I like Thad behind the plate, reminds me a lot of Lucroy. I remember watching Harst last year at USM. I'm sure we'll see him back there. We have a line of DHs to choose from. Offense should be GREAT!
Question? I know Lucroy had the freedom to call his own game. Will the new catcher(s) have that same freedom and confidence of the coaches?

I totally agree Fontenot will have a shot. And I will take SS like Paker anyday. For some reason Coach Robe has stuck with Long and I think at least to start the season we will see Long again at SS.
I also thought Benzel looked strong in the series. He has a good build and I can see some potential. I just feel he will redshirt but this was a close call when I was filling out my roster.
Hawkins will play first when Lil Robe is pitching. There is no question which one has the better glove and arm on defense.
We need to find a way to get Griffen, Lil Robe, Hawkins, Harst, and Whipple bats in the line-up. Lil Robe could play 3rd (I heard he played SS in high school and has shown a very good glove at 1st), Griffen at C, Hawkins at 1st, Harst at DH, and Whipple in the OF. With the additions of Gisclair, Long, Logan, and Hicks this give us a very strong line up.
My biggest concern is the way Moody and Glass looked in the series. If they come back to form, this is a top 15 team that could do some serious damage in post season.

And we still have Hatfield. I love the fact that we have TOO MANY bats to fit in the line up. If for some reason one is cold, we're not going to see coach scrapping the bench and gritting for who to put in? He'll be pulling bingo numbers out a hat, with everyone leading to WIN!
Moody and Glass may be a little rusty in fall but they always come around. I'm excited to see more of that Buillard kid!

I don't think coach robe would waste Fontenot's redshirt on a defensive replacement

I do. What I have seen of Long he may be used often as a defensive replacement. I think he will also get a shot at starting. He can also be used late in the game in a double switch situation for defense or to pinch run.

With the introduction of 5 games a week "defensive replacement" may not mean what it once did. (?)
I wish I could have made a fall ball game or 2 or 3 I would have loved to see Greg play. Now I can't wait for the spring.

who yall think will get redshirted, and who will get cut if any. Pitching will be there you have to understand that they face these pitchers for two months.
