Sorry, there are more then a few examples of Athletic Directors holding press conferences on the subjects of retaining coaches, assistant coaches, terminating coaches and coaches agreeing to new contracts.
side note: None of those programs are currently on NCAA probation or have received written warning from the NCAA for low APR scores. For this reason, Friday's released statement was unacceptable in explaining the decision to retain both coaches considering the magnitude and consequences.
It doesn't matter if Mr. Walker is unwilling or is uncomfortable in conducting such press conferences. His decision not to do so was unprofessional and is poor judgement on his part.

We just added another 2-3 years on top of the damage to rebuild our basketball image!
This will never be a basketball town. You can fit 10,000 in that Cajundome if you really wanted to. _
I agree with most of what you have said but I would submit there was a time when this town was going nuts over basketball....Blackham was packed to the rafters night in and night out.... I dont remember what it held.. maybe 5,000
Then Marty Fletcher came in and we had crowds over 10,000 several times....
This administration has done soo much harm that it may be difficult if not impossible to get many of those folks back..........

Hey Josh, look how easy your job got!! Now everyone is telling you how to do your job better. It's like free professional development. Isn't it soo helpful. Oh and while we're on the subject, you should use Arial font, its much better than times new roman.;)

Honestly I've never seen a bigger bunch of ass kissers in my life... Parrott jumped the gun; he didn't have all the facts. Cajun T brought more to the table at 10:52 this morning than I've heard from anyone else. I'm not looking for acceptance or friendship from any of you people, I just want the truth!!!

The truth is, NO ONE OWES YOU A DAMN EXPLANATION FOR ANYTHING! Yes it would be great if David Walker and UL athletic department would sit down and have a mea culpa with all of us. However, we all know that will never happen. And all though we think its o ur right as a fan to know everything, they owe us no explanation.

If they want anymore of my money, or anyone else's for that matter, i.e. through the RCAF, then there will be no questions about whether or not an explanation is owed, it will simply be given, no questions asked.

This is not a well thought-out opinion. You are correct that we don't need to know everything.
But we do need to know something.
And if this administration wants any of our money, they'd better know that.

Listen buddy, I'm glad you feel warm inside because you and Farmer had a 2 minute conversation about fried shrimp. You’re obviously fine that Walker and others will never be held accountable? I'm not!

You do know something. As of Friday both Lee and Rogers are being retained. You havent thought out well anything in this thread!

Maybe he dismissed guys who were not good for the team. If you don't know, don't make assumptions. Find out and then come up with your answer. And for the record, I was one of the first people on this board to my knowledge to write BOTH Farmer and Walker about my displeasure with the program and Lee's coaching. While I'd love to see somebody else in as coach, as I was practially begging for, I also see the possible ramifications if he was fired. All I can tell you is that the last two years of Lee's tenure, our APR has been perfect. I don't know if and how it was affected by this so-called "path" but it couldn't have been affected too bad.

I know that they're being retained, and I know they're version of "why." I do not have faith that the reason is as clear cut as they'd have us believe. 3 players would have to quit in order for us to get the NCAA crow-hop. THREE!! So those guys loved coach Lee so much (and going 10-20) that they'd quit and lose they're free ride to college?? I don't buy it. And guess what? The man in charge (DW) hasn't answered many questions!
C'mon now, you really believe that the fans/alumni who are supporting UL athletics don't deserve more answers?

Yes I think we deserve better. But what we think we deserve and what is reality is two totally different ideas. I was ____ed when I heard they were keeping Lee, Rogers I could understand because he has 2 years left. Its clear the DW is not going to answer our questions, why keep beating our heads against a brick wall. Make a statement, cancel season tickets (I did), send an email stating why you cancelled (do not expect a response) and move on to better things.

The truth is, those guys were probably cancers for the team, and having them gone was probably a good thing.
However
These APR rules were in place at the time this happened. So I find it to be an irresponsible decision to get such a low APR score that even if you have 2 perfect years following, we're still hamstrung the 4th year. That's not smart managing.
Do I agree with how APR is structured by the NCAA? No, I think it's BS.
But Walker and Lee knew the rules. They/he made what appeared to be a great decision on the surface by dismissing a bunch of dead weight, but that move had disastrous ramifications (obviously) 4 years later.

We agree. We deserve better.
And you're right, we are wasting our time. But I'm too ____ed off to not vent. I'll be good and apathetic like the rest of cajun basketball fans in a week or so.

The last year of being hamstrung is this year 08-09
Next year UL has a clean slate.

Re: Joshua Parrott Op-Ed: Despite fans' frustrations, UL did right thing
You guys are writing some good stuff on here. Josh wrote an article based on a set of facts and gave an opinion (stating "right choice"). I do not take issue with "page 846 of the continuing sad saga of UL athletics". I take issue with what led up to page 846. IMO Josh ought to find out more about how pathetic we have administered athletics at UL... and combine an article that both condemns the admin for HAVING to arrive at another detour from athletic success, while crediting the great fans that have hung in there and supported UL over the many years.
I want someone with a pair to take a serious look at the lack of balls that led up to these handcuffs put on our athletics programs... herald the great Cajun fans and their incredible passion... while boiling the people in charge in hot oil. I'm sick of the ineptness at the helm. If any of you are so ignorant that you think these guys don't have alternatives... you know nothing... they continuously size up their alternatives and take the path of least risk for themselves.
Sports reporters that are tied to a local program (unlike national coverage people) can almost never tear up the administrators or the coaches. If a national reporter heard about what has gone on at UL, and cared enough to write the article, he would rip this university's admin to shreds... mercilessly... and be dead nuts on. How is that for a FACT!

Great way to put it! Thanks! No doubt the UL athletic dept. is a major embarrasment to the university and there is simply no interest there in doing what it takes to give the athletic program the CHANCE to be great.

Well, to the logic used by many here who have to deflect blame, these players may have not been HIS players rather those left over from Evans. Just a thought. Maybe he was doing what he thought was best for the team. I've stated many times here, I was very disappointed that coach Lee was retained but I feel many people were part of the equation including the players themselves for their poor play this year.

2 Players run off after his second year were generally his guys. They were JC guys that just did not fit in to what he was trying to do. They were named Ed Turner and JT Fields.
