One of my many conversations with Tom Cox was he stated a kid needed a bus ticket back to his hometown for a family emergency and Coach Shipley or someone else on the staff bought the young many the ticket. Violation yes, kind, absolutely! Because of Shipley recruiting black players against USLs unwritten rule, the NCAA and the university wanted to make an example out of him and his program to matter the cost.

I don't care what were the reasons, and I understand the discussion of integration and equality and what the man stood for. Does that change the fact that he violated numerous rules and this program was given the death penalty?

The only reason this school was given the death penalty was because no one showed up to defend the school.

The documents that were prepared and were supposed to be handed over to the NCAA were given to Ron Gomez. He wrote a book with the info.
