they told me today that they had over 5,000 reserved... didnt give me an exact number though
To many college football fans in this region, Tuesday's 66-63 track meet between Toledo and Western Michigan was probably little more than some silly little game between two MAC teams that don't seem to practice defense.
To those interested in the Sun Belt Conference, however, it was actually more than that.
JONESBORO, Ark. — They wanted to go bowling in style, winning this weekend and perhaps accepting an invitation sometime later this week. Instead, the UL Ragin' Cajuns will go with another scuff on their shoes. A loss Saturday at Arkansas State ...
We need for Western Kentucky to lose 1 more game...then the invite will happen.
Anything worth having is worth waiting for.
We have eight wins. The NO Bowl wants us. The conference champ / bowl rep will go to Mobile. All of the conference obligations will be met. If another team finishes ahead of us in a tie, the conference will try to place them somewhere. If not they will get left out just as we did in the MOA fiasco when WW spent all his time working to get Schnelly in a bowl.
When our last game against zona and we won't have to be worrying
I have a feeling the announcements will come after the November 26 games. Reasons: I expect ASU & WKU will win their 2 remaining games. ASU's last game is on December 3, but if they win on November 26, they will guarantee no worse than a tie with WKU. Since they beat WKU, they win the "tie-break," making them the conference champion (they will be anyway after beating Troy). I'm not going to guess how things will play out just yet, as far as who is going to what bowls, I'm just predicting announcements will be made after those games.
If ASU beats Middle....it's over. The conference championship is ASU's. They own the tiebreaker over WKU. If they win next week...Godaddy.com Bowl can send them the invite...we get the invite to New Orleans Bowl and WKU is hoping for someone to not fill their bowl slots.
If you’re a UL football fan, you know the bowl invitation is coming. It just seems like it’s never going to get here. The Ragin’ Cajuns’ 30-21 loss at Arkansas State on Saturday pushed back plans for an official bid extension to the R&L Carriers ...
Formal announcement of the Ragin Cajuns' long-anticipated invitation to the New Orleans Bowl could come as early as Monday, depending on the outcome of games this weekend involving both Sun Belt Conference-leader Arkansas State and current conference No. 2 Western Kentucky.
Enough of the hype my our media. We just need to be patent for out invite o New Orleans. It will happen but I would bet that it will NOT be Monday. Nice try Tim.
It could very well be Monday if stAte wins, because then the GoDaddy.com Bowl would not have to wait for anything else.
He's just doing his job.
If stAte wins Saturday [and they should] they will clinch a share of the SBC title, and they hold the tiebreaker. That being the case, the NO Bowl can invite us, knowing that GoDaddy will HAVE to take stAte [who they want anyway]. The only problem we might have is if stAte loses out.
Where do those pesky Hilltoppers fit in? If they are bowl eligiable and win a share of the Sunbelt then where would that leave us? The Sunbelt to the best of my knowledge only has two sure bowl tie ins.
If ASU and WKU tie, ASU wins the tiebreaker as they beat the Toppers. Toppers are out of luck in that scenario as conference rules only state that the champion has to be accomodated. I would be shocked if ASU does not handle MT with ease. MT is struggling and ASU is playing for a title. I would not be surprised if ASU brings a few folks to MT for the game on Saturday.
They could go to whatever other bowl who couldn't fill their slots would be willing to take them. Or if no slots are available or no one wants them because they do not think they are an attractive draw they would just be SOL much as we and ASU were during the Memorandum of Undestanding debacle when Wright Waters expended all of his energy getting FAU a bowl slot and neglected to make sure that UL and ASU were accomodated. Sometimes, life's a _____; we know, we've been there.
WKU is currently not even bowl eligible and I believe they will lose this weekend at North Texas. ASU beats MT this weekend and the announcement for the New Orleans Bowl can happen Monday. The Hilltoppers will probably beat Troy to go 6-6 but they would then be at the mercy of whatever bowls have openings. FIU is currently bowl eligible at 6-4 and they go to Funroe and Middle to finish - they will be in a bowl.
I agree; I think UNT knocks off WKU - UNT is also in the 6-6 hunt still!
If WKU does get bowl elgible I would fully expect WW to do whatever he could to get them into a bowl game; not trying to sound sarcastic or say there is favoritism here!
Not much.
I saw the favoritism in Hot Springs last year when the conference hotel, off limits to ALL Sun Belt teams, suddenly had a WKU team staying there ... accident?
Thankfully the bowl committee picks who they want, not WW. Not saying influence wouldn't be applied; but its about money, and the Cajuns would bring a LOT more to New Orleans than WKU!
It doesnt matter what wku does. Hopefully they find another spot for them but its not going to be new orleans. Remember a few years ago, FAU was picked for a bowl above us even though they finished below us in the standings. Same thing may happen to wku.
It doesn't matter what happens...we are going to New Orleans regardless. If WKU wins the tiebreakers or ASU wins the tiebreaker...New Orleans has the first choice...and as long as the winner of the tiebreaker gets slotted somewhere, anywhere, then New Orleans picks us. It's only a matter of when the invite comes.
Look at last year...FIU won the tiebreaker...where did they go? Little Caesars Bowl. Godaddy.com wanted MTSU and New Orleans wanted Troy. These bowls will get who they want. And lucky for us...New Orleans has the first choice and we are the apple of their eye.
