Correct. I doubt that happens any where else in the country where alumni call their own school y’all and and a school they never went to we, while in conversation with someone they went to school with for four years. It’s sickening.

I get backing LSU, but those UL grads aren’t really part of the us, at least according to my LSU friends. You gotta go there to be an us.

That’s just a reality of the situation. It will take a monumental effort by the university to get current students to identify with UL over LSU. But, it doesn’t happen by osmosis. If it did we would have a bunch of fans already.

It’s the same reason there are so many Braves fans in Louisiana. With the Astros next door, there are tons of Braves fans because “they were on TV” thanks to TBS. People are spoonfed to be TSAB fans by local media, EPSN, politicians, family members, etc. from birth. My best friend’s family in Shreveport can’t stand south Louisiana, but boy are they Tiguh fans…

They’ve had the edge since the top levels of state government made them a priority. It’s a battle that we can make progress in locally, but the school is so inconsistent in their approach that people are apathetic.

I know several other "G5" universities with the same issue at least according to their fans. Just in the past couple of years looking on their message boards prior to playing them. Ohio and Miami-OH -> Ohio State. EMU -> Michigan and MSU.

Even in the belt they deal with this and talk about it on the Belt board. Southern Miss -> Ole Miss and Moo State. Georgia Southern and Georgia State -> UGA and Georgia Tech. TXST -> all those other "P5" Texas schools. SOAL and Troy -> Auburn and Bama, etc.

Believe me, students and alum identifying with universities other than the ones they attend is not a UL specific problem.

There's nothing more humorous than seeing someone that didn't go to the school in BR say "we" when talking about the Tiguhs just because they pull for them when playing on TV.

I didn’t go to college. I say we talking about my Cajuns all the time. I got money and time invested, I’m part of the team.

The Cajuns/UL community is bigger than the students, alums and university staff. The Cajuns/UL represent our region, and the region represents the culture of the university and its athletics.
