Army had a great football program, EIGHTY years ago. Just sayin'...
Exactly and that success back then certainly has nothing to do with where those programs are today. In those cases, success didn't breed success.

It’s been a continuum of relative success. Yes they haven’t had almost 3 decades of mediocrity. Finally we’ve got almost every RP poster saying getting to the dance is success worthy of contract extension. We haven’t even had much of that.

Why can't that be the Cajuns?!

We have had plenty contract extension.
Re: Sorry can't fire Marlin
Yep they killed us in the paint. Lots of free throws made.

Nice catch there, forgot that one.
El Aye Tech had a great women's bb program...35 years ago...
NMSU obviously puts more effort into MBB than football, and nobody in the conference goes after them. If you're a basketball fan there, it's nice being in the discussion almost every year come tournament time. But football bowl games for NMSU, just made their 4th bowl appearance, first since 1960 happened this fall. Beat Utah State both times. 59 years.
Want to swap? I agree our ROI isn't good on either hoops team, but who threw the money out there? Cannot blame Broadhead or Marlin for taking it.
If anyone should be complaining about their MBB program and consistent winners of the SBC, it's LR and UTA. Basketball should be king on campus every year.
Re: Sorry can't fire Marlin
Chris Jans the coach at nmsu is 1 of the best coaches in the country. If he doesn't get wasted his first year at Bowling Green he is probably at a p5 right now. Some in Wichita believe he was largely responsible for some of the success Wichita state had under Gregg Marshall. The program under Marlin has gotten stale . Defense is mediocre and the offense has too many shot hunters. There is a lack of team ball for the last few years. There is some talent but not much winning basketball.

I would say those are valid points the last two years. However the 2017-18 played a brand of basketball that was very "team" oriented. Probably because it had outstanding leadership.

They were fun to watch, the chemistry was great. Had not seen that kind of ball here in a long time. Injured late...Woulda, shoulda, coulda...

So, if we got to the dance this year with a sub .500 record would that be a cause for an extension? I don't think so.

You hadn't seen it in a while and won't see it for a while either...

No biggie I was just responding to VO's point about the success of their current coach in just making the tournament the last 3 years.
My point is that their recent success (NCAA appearances) were not in a vacuum.

Baby Cakes at it again. He is right and everybody else is wrong. Just like a three year old. Just as soon go home as he has hi-jacked the thread with his know it all BS.
Re: Sorry can't fire Marlin
Guys, let’s all be honest...if we were in New Mexico States shoes, we’d want that coach ran after not winning a big game in the Dance! Lol

Agreed. We just need to keep Marlin and work through it.

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Tackling this project is probably far enough into the future.

Not for an extension, but it’s would be a great season. Big Fish can’t save his job as far as I’m concerned. Too many seasons of being neither good nor bad.
Re: Sorry can't fire Marlin
We’re really gonna be having some fun when we win the conference tournament.

What school are you a fan of for the tournament? It’s that “we” thing.
