A sports ticker abbreviation is not the same as what we would use on caps and uni's....for example, when you look up a Louisville score the abbreviation is LOU but they use the single "L" on caps and UNIs. Everyone knows Oklahoma as "OU" but on a sports ticker they are known as "OKLA". I would bet ULA would have been legal to give the SunBelt when they requested a sports ticker abbreviation or Even LU. And no, Lamar is not known as LU on sports tickers, it's LAM.
I'm beginning to like LARC. It would be just a ticker, and says who we are without violating any of those idiotic laws....and no Lafayette in sight.

Who knows? Back to the report...I just hope that the report is being studied and discussed by those who need to.
I'm sticking with UL.

I stand by that.
But if you prefer, a public statement by our AD was made that [paraphrasing] "We are comfortable in the Sun Belt". Another statement from him [again a paraphrase] "We are not ready to change conferences at this time."
Both can be easily interpreted as "We have no interest in changing conferences."

Re: Alden Report Released by University of Louisiana Athletics
It's been my experience to take an anonymous source with a grain of salt...More importantly its been well stated on this venue, the critical criteria for getting into a better conference is:
Size of TV market
Size of Budget
I'm not sure what any AD can do about those two issues and others

SF stated in the beginning that he wanted to position Louisiana for a better conference. Now, SF states we are happy in the SBC. As Athletic director, you never stop wanting to improve. This needs to be stated publicly for fans to embrace him.

TV market? Louisiana Tech? Western Kentucky?? THE AD can do nothing about the size of the budget? At most Athletic Departments the AD is the big closer when it comes to fundraising.....I have been told by others in this business and those connected to other Universities we have not even tried to move.....showed no interest in moving. We are burying ourselves..

Me too. We have been fighting for this since the 80's... We have gained some traction... It's fun to p-off my a&m@br friends... I do believe it is a long term branding issue that will come along with success, growth and a new conference... We have to STICK with something... Our opponents in-state use the evolution from SLI to USL to ULL to our brand of UL as a source of derision.
We have set on the UL path.. Stick to the fight.. Don't give up
Short anecdote... By nephew is an outstanding baseball player playing at a JUCO right now... From BR and his family are avid a&m@br fans.... He has interest from UNO and some other state teams but said he has not heard from "UL"... the latter has been a monumental change for him and his dad... Coming out of High School Tony offered a preferred walk-on position... His ego was to large to accept.. He thought he would get a similar walk-on from a&m@br.... The point here is that his exposure here when on his visit, my pushing UL... has worked in his family...
One-b-one we can win.... but we have to stay the course... Jay started this way back when he said he would forever refer to us as "Louisiana" during the broadcasts.. He has not waivered. Neither should we

----Notice when we play our O
OC games against the P-5s that they tend to put Louisiana on the tickets and scoreboards---Who would you rather your fans think you are playing Louisiana-??? or Louisiana??? again we get LSU pushing us and the others in state pulling us down-----Keep fighting---If we get into a different conference I really think it would be over or the tide to have changed demonstratively!!!

Re: Alden Report Released by University of Louisiana Athletics
( no interested in trying to move) Just curious, do you think that decision was made by the AD?
-
Re: Alden Report Released by University of Louisiana Athletics
I think the person who made that decision was heavily influenced by the person he hired to evaluate such matters; and that would be the AD.

Louisiana is not the issue. We are all in agreement with that. It is the acronym we are also referred by. Outside of Lafayette, everyone including media, use ULL or UL-L that our marketing dept told the conference and media to use. LARC is apparently only for trailers on televised games. UL is illegal and will always be fought by ULM, La Tech and LSU. So, do we use just an L, LU, LA, or something else? I love UL, but it will never gain statewide or national traction. How long do we play this insane name game? Louisiana is locked in. What is our acronym?

A good abbreviation is as good as an acronym.

Re: Alden Report Released by University of Louisiana Athletics
Finally had the opportunity to thumb through this thing..
The specific personnel evaluations are not included in this version of the report, so take that into consideration.
I'd personally like to thank Mike Alden and his staff for spending time reading RP and it's many fine posters for valuable input in their report. This is quite literally a condensed "thread" of everything we've discussed, complained and warned about for 10 years here, on this forum. It's pretty unbelievable actually.
But seriously, the "don't put this plan on the shelf" comment is so multi-layered in meaning. First and foremost, we have to go out and find an Athletic Director that can handle this kind of undertaking. We are severely, SEVERELY lacking at this position and have been for a really long time. So implement the correct leadership and then, and only then, can we proceed with our future endeavors.
For anyone saying that we are financially disadvantaged with our current economic state: Let me remind you of Mr. Warren Buffet's strategy of investing -- "When people are buying, be fearful. When people are fearful, be buying." The time is now. Excuses and difficulties be damned.
Have we been under staffed? Sure we have. But how LONG have we been understaffed? I can absolutely hold our administration accountable for not addressing a major issue that has plagued our growth in athletics for this amount of time! If you need people, FIGURE IT OUT. It's been said many times here; put the football stadium suites (that you can't sell anyway) on the back-burner for now, endow athletic scholarships; then use the money that's currently being allocated for that to staff a full, functioning athletic department.
I was a little disappointed in the 'LARC' suggestion. I think we can do better than that.
It's now all on the Prez.

ULA is a better acronym than ULL and LARC IMO.
