I say scratch albineaux and just call him Louis
Even the alligator species was founded by frenchmen.... and official name is because of mississippi river, not anything in Florida.
We really should renegade with florida getting to use it and the swamp....
The American alligator was first classified in 1801 by French zoologist François Marie Daudin as Crocodilus mississipiensis. In 1807, Georges Cuvier created the genus Alligator for it,[14] based on the English common name alligator (derived from Spanish word el lagarto, "the lizard").
Does the alligator have to be white or can they be dark green like the gators at Cypress Lake on campus? I’ve read the reason for it, but just wondering if it creates unnecessary questions and confusion. We know our university’s colors are vermillion and white and the mascot will likely wear these colors with pride.
Albineaux can be a surname.
Just like the legends of humor Boudreaux and Thibodeaux go by surname alone (cause dey famous) , the legend of Albineaux and his various exploits are best served through surname alone.
There still can be many first names in the Albineaux family, like Louis and Ana Albineaux
I get it you want to think albino when you think of his name first, that he isnt a green alligator might be to redundant. Its just Louis the Alligator. Also if we gonna call him AL for short
Bama: Big Al
Florida: Albert and Alberta
Those are what i think of Albineaux because people will just say AL.
Turbine I agree! Let Albineaux be the surname name! That has to be the most Cajun and Louisiana thing you can do big Louis Albineaux. Louis
Albineaux and Ana Albineaux!!
Another closer.

Kids love Bucky Badger up here. I think Louis or Albineaux could be equally successful.

Louis Albineaux only if he stays white, one of our team colors. If we make him red, he can be Louis Rougeaux! But, some won't like that at all...HA HA!
I am not sure if you all or Cory realize the reality of today's unconformtable world, so I will say it:
Some people will only see "race" if the Gator will be white.
Some people will only think we are making fun of people with "albinism" by calling the mascot "Albineaux"
I know it sounds crazy, but it is the country we live in of everyone getting feelings hurt nowadays. Yea its crazy because a black man actually created this mascot with no intentions of any of the above, but out of his love for UL. He is super talented.
Just stating the reality of the sitituation. 20 years ago we didn't have to deal with things like this, but now we do.
So keep the Gator, make him red or green and change the name.
Folks, this Alligator is white. Where in all of creation is a white alligator related to Louisiana. We have black Alligators in our one of a kind SWAMP in the MIDDLE of our CAMPUS.
Name him NIL for all I care.
This seems like an easy solution that I can support. Make the gator mascot green with a red outfit and change the name. We can have a fan created mascot with the university's support. Let’s make it happen!
Brought this up when Al first showed up on' RP. Its a pretty good guess that most of athletes at UL are black...A white gator is not going to go over well...Better to come up with another name and a new color to go with red, cause with this generation and the wokeness on campus, you're just asking for a fail.
This is the dumbest idea for a number of reasons. First off, "albino", a genetic condition. Second, Florida has the Gator and we are Louisiana - why would we copy another state and their mascot? Third, the Ragin' Cajuns is a diverse community and this idea does not conform with who we are.
I understand gators have a slight dark green hue. Everyone can immediately relate to a green gator with little confusion of what it is. My High School’s mascot was a gator and our colors were black and gold.
