OT: McNeese Football

I'm not sure if there has already been a thread on this, but I just realized today that McNeese fired their head coach. I'm pretty shocked to be honest. McNeese went 1-10 last year. The one win being by forfeit after Northwestern did not finish out the season. McNeese improved to 6-6 this year. The Cowboys narrowly missed going 7-5 with Lamar scoring on the final play to beat McNeese in the last game of the year.

"With the investment we have made in our football program and facilities over the last few years, we will not accept nor celebrate mediocrity. McNeese is a special place with a rich tradition. We have one of, if not the best, fan bases in FCS football. We should be competing for SLC championships and be nationally relevant!"

The above quote is from McNeese's AD. I understand his point about not accepting mediocrity, but such a vast improvement from the prior season is kind of hard to ignore. I'm sure Tim Leger's name will be floated for the job. To best honest though, I expect McNeese to try and make a splash hire.

We play McNeese the second game of the season next year.

Does Tim want them? His family loves it here. Gunner is coaching here as well.

….Give him some NIL bucks….He is a true football/baseball guy…..almost a dream to be at the same school where his son is a future H of Fer and to work about 100 yards away…..STAYYYYYYYY JUST A LITTLE BIT LONGER……Who knows maybe one day a father/son head FB/BB coaching deal!

zeppelincajun I see the confusion on going from one win to six because its an automatic contract extension at UL. Not to mention automatically tacking on free career percentage wins.

I believe in their message and their expectations. I also believe in context. The fact that there was a huge jump this year from the dumpster fire their program was in last year would lend me to believe a 3rd year would surely be warranted. Now, maybe there are some other factors involved that we are not aware of that might have made that decision by the A.D. easier who knows.
