What Really Happened to the Goalpost After Louisiana Upset Texas A&M in 1996?
In the wake of Vanderbilt’s recent upset over #1 Alabama, which saw fans rush the field and carry the goalpost to the river, many locals were reminded of a legendary night in Lafayette - the 1996 upset of Texas A&M by Louisiana (then USL)
The Ragin’ Cajuns shocked the Aggies 29-22 at Cajun Field, and while the program's first-ever victory over a Top 25-ranked team itself was monumental, nearly three decades later, the fate of the goalpost that came down after the game has turned into a mystery of folklore proportions.

Was the goal post not retrieved and mounted on the levee?

Yes. I have heard rumors that I believe to be true on where that goal post ended up.

So, where are they today?

I've heard two events took place.
1. It went to Ray's (Sports Bar)
2. It made it across Cajundome Blvd. heading to a house. Everybody started fighting and they dropped it.
It definitely isn't in one of the houses on Glynn Abel.
I went to the bar that used to be Ray's in very early 2000s looking for one of the pipes. No dice.
On a different note, this is why I've said we can find a sponsor for our field goals. The amount of drill pipe, etc. companies we have in Acadiana is endless, endless.

I was there. There were dropped at the corner of Bertrand and Reinhardt. What happened after that I couldn’t say. They did not get carried to the strip.

That YouTube link to the game broadcast was from my VHS recording of that game, which I digitized and uploaded four years ago. Glad to see it's getting some use.

I seem to remember the school doing a fundraiser where you could purchase a small section of the goalpost with a little plaque on it

As for one of the South or North EZ Pylons…. (not me). I’m not smart enough to have thought of going after one of those! And I was still in H.S.

I used to work at Ray's as a bartender, it made it to Ray's that night, what happened after that I can not answer. I was not working that night, I was out of town, but I know for a fact it at some point made it to Ray's.
I know the Ragin Review guys stated it went to the strip that night, I believe that that is 100% lore. I do not believe it ever made it to the strip.
