Lafayette Louisiana 50 best places to live
If it's the best place to live it's the best place to go to school.

Can't argue, grew up here, moved back, but also lived in Rutherfordton, NC, Asheville, NC,
Huntsville, Al, Savannah, and Hattiesburg...Savannah and Huntsville are right up there as well, but nothing beats Lafayette and the great state of Acadiana!

Savannah has some beautiful areas, but there are no go zones off I-95. I exited in the wrong area by mistake several times and quickly found my way back to the interstate. Hattiesburg is no way in the discussion for me. :)

Only thing I liked about Hattiesburg was that it was only 90 minutes away from the casinos on the coast, other than that, pas bon.

My youngest just graduated from college in Savannah. Been there many times while she was in school. I always thought of it as a clean New Orleans. I was always happy with the police presence in the city because of the large student population and the tourist industry. The projects are located in the heart of the city but there has never been any problems associated with that which I am aware of. The is always a breeze blowing on the walk along the river which makes it pleasant when walking in that area.

It does have a New Orleans vibe, and is cleaner (which doesn’t take much). I spent about 6 months there and went to the restaurant/bar area a few times. Cool place, but walking 100 yards or so without having homeless folks come up and beg for money is difficult. And parking down in that area was basically asking for your car to get broken in to.

I drove to Savannah for 10 years on business for a client that was multi-state whether flying into Atlanta and renting a car or driving up from Jacksonville. The I-95 corridor from the Port of Miami and up the East Coast is a major drug trafficking Interstate for years, much like I-10. I had a friend that was employed by the DEA that specifically worked with law enforcement along the I-95 corridor and he told me that the area in Savannah I exited is very similar to New Orleans 9th Ward.
Savannah is a beautiful community as long as you stay out of those areas.

I lived in the Starland district, never had an issue right down the street from Back in the Day Bakery...

My issue with Lafayette is the job market and pay. Awful. The people are also very clique-ish and don’t really venture out of their own circles. To each their own.

I moved my family to the Kansas City area in 2017 and have received many a job offer to move back. All of those offers, which entailed more management and more responsibility, came with a pay cut. Not happening. Yes, the culture (what's left of it anyway) is amazing, but that's not enough to overcome a smaller paycheck, a ____ poor public school system, lackluster infrastructure, and humidly hot summers.
