College Basketball Crown Tournament
Read where Fox Sports & AEG is launching a competitor to the NIT; a 16 team men's tournament to be held in Las Vegas week of March 31-April 6, 2025. Two auto entries for Big 10, Big 12, and Big East. Other 10 slots selected by committee. I guess there's a market for this with all the team declining NIT bids. Maybe with this development the NIT will revisit its selection process.

NIT when the Cajuns went in the 80’s was special because only 32 made the NCAA. Today, not so much. To some fans, we called it NIT…Not In Tournament.
To put that in perspective, UL made the NCAA as an at large during that smaller field time. What a heck of a team. Comparing that era of Shipley thru Paschal to others at UL is a non starter.
That is the reality of the downward trend of UL basketball…been happening for decades and never addressed.

There's been multiple forks in the road, where we made a wrong turn or just took path of least resistance. Probably around 1991 might have been good chance to get basketball from American South into the Metro Conf. when other members exited. Granted five years later it morphed into CUSA. Suppose might have still landed in the SBC many years later like USM, but we'll never know. The facts are since SBC, basketball has been on a gradual 30 year decline. I don't blame it on the Cajundome, its squarely about the schedule which is mostly dictated by the conference schedule we've played for many years now.

Oh, basketball has been addressed. Baton Rouge and Doc A addressed the heck out of it.

Sadly, yes. It didn’t help FB languishing for a permanent conference along the way either.
We look at McLeast and forget their AD was formerly the MBB coach. It sometimes comes down to leadership perspective.
