Massey Composite Conference Rankings as of 10-15-23
Massey Composite Conference Rankings, 10/15
So this is about the time of year that I start to trust computer rankings, as any filler data from last year is likely to have been flushed out of the formulas by now. Or maybe that's next week. But still.
Anyway, here are the rankings. I must admit that how the SEC is #1 is a head-scratcher to me:
1) SEC ... 8.12
2) PAC ... 8.02
3) B12 ... 7.96
4) B1G ... 7.93
5) ACC ... 7.74
6) SBC ... 7.14
7) MW .... 7.08
8) AAC ... 6.97
9) CUSA .. 6.72
10) MAC .. 6.71

Less than 1.41 points separate the SEC (best) from the MAC (worst)
The SBC comes in with less than 1 point of separation.
Re: Massey Composite Conference Rankings as of 10-15-23
Looking at the big picture, now that SMU is leaving the AAC, I think the SBC's main focus should be on recruiting UTSA to the SBC. This move alone would place the SBC even further ahead of the AAC and take away a possible addition that could strengthen the MWC. It would also give us even more exposure in Texas and a needed travel partner for TSU.

UTSA, Memphis and ECU should be the focus. Once UTSA is officially not included in the the new PAC/MWC mashup, it will be easier to convince them to come our way. Memphis and ECU are not going anywhere as long as they keep getting 6 mill from their media deal. When that ends, and they have an idea of what a new AAC media deal would pay, I'm guessing ECU will come over then. Memphis will be a little more difficult. They are going to exhaust every avenue to place their basketball in a basketball league even if it means them going Indy for football like UCONN.
If we can't get Memphis, I will be very happy with UTSA and ECU.
