When you look at the number of players in the portal is there a way to mathmatically hit on just the right individuals to catch lightning in a bottle?

I think what he's saying is that there are so many kids in the portal that if you are just better at picking the diamonds in the rough, you can win big without having to just overpay for the obvious talent. Clearly the trick there is the "being better at picking" part.

Ironically "Money Ball" is about finding role players without your needing "the money."

1) This admin is not seriously committed to basketball
2) It would take millions of private dollars
3) Making a deep run requires a decent seed - not sure our league is there yet
4) The fall out from the pump and dump would be insane
5) BR would investigate us to high heaven

Think about how many failures are out there. There has been TWO public non power programs win the NCAA tournament since the Bo Lamar days. TWO. So with a solid 240-250 non power programs, do the math. Even use 200 for early days. 50 years x 200 teams. About 10k chances, and only 2 winners.

Should we aspire for such, absolutely. But it’s more DAL for public non power conferences to win it all than any coach.

Espouse what positives can be done (like raising NIL money).

And money doesn’t always deliver. Most people’s default, “why can’t we be like Gonzaga”…over 30 years, heavy private school investment, zero titles. And still play in a cracker box gym. I’ll looking for them to fade away soon, especially if Timmie goes pro. The ROI is fading.
