Cajun Basketball

Not hoping to get into a pizzing contest with people over Marlin or our program or anything else, just asking about the starting assumed starting lineup for the Cajuns. Here are my thoughts, but someone with more knowledge than me might have a better idea.

G. Greg Williams
G. Ty Harper
C. Theo Akwuba
F. Kobe Julien
F. Jordan Brown

First guys off the bench

Dou Gueye at forward
Isaiah Richards at Center
Bryan Au at PG
Jalen Dalencourt at G
Antwan Jones at G

Others with possible playing time

Durey Cadwell
Michael Thomas
Joe Charles

We have 16 players listed, so its possible that 1 or more of the true freshman could RS, including Carter Domignue and Joe Charles or possibly some of the upper classman.

Thoughts?

I think your starting 5 is accurate. I could see Jones possibly factoring in there but the fact that he should be able to play both the 2 and 3 would make him a good fit in a 6th man type role.

I would think Wesley would have a role off the bench as a true PG with all of the other guards being more on a combo type. Au, Wesley and Cadwell are the x factors for me with their injury issues in the past but if truly healthy they may be able to contribute more than what we think.

I would be in support of a redshirt for Charles, Domingue, or even Thomas, but in the days of the transfer portal having someone stay in a program 5 years is going to be a rarity so maybe they should just play. From the sound of Foote's article Charles appears to be ready to contribute but the amount of talent in front of him at forward will make it hard to find minutes.

Au is still hurt and Wesley has missed some time in practice. Wouldn't expect much from them early in the season. Not sure what was said to Foote about Charles, but I had heard he wasn't even close to competing for playing time. Will probably redshirt.

You are correct in four of your projected starters. I think Jones starts ahead of Harper. He is a more consistent shooter and has strength at the rim. Ty tends to only go to his left. His right hand handle needs developmental. That can lead to turnovers at times. I agree that it is possible that both freshman as well as Michael Thomas redshirt. Cadwell will be in the rotation in some fashion due to his smarts and defensive ability.

Vic you know all about Carter. Brad knows Don who is a basketball ref and good friends with Danny B. Brad and Don can tell you more about him.

He is a great kid. I hope he does well here. I was very glad he decided to utilize his eligibility as a Ragin Cajun.

Man, Carter is a fantastic kid! Can’t wait to watch him play.
