I knew we would move up a bunch of spots but had no idea it would be 7. Alot of teams ahead of the Cajuns had rough weekends, including LSU, Northwestern, Tennessee, UNC, Baylor and Depaul.
Re: UL Softball Ranking - #16
How is it that Texas beats LSU twice and LSU remains ranked above Texas? That's just stupid!
Alabama lost twice this week, once by a score of 9-0! They reman in the top 10, but at least Missouri who beat them moved ahead of them. It is interesting that Missouri was also out scored 9-0 by ALABAMA!!!
Re: UL Softball Ranking - #16
I don't think LSU had a "bad" weekend. All the losses were by one run. They beat two top 25 teams (splitting with North Carolina). Texas was just hot and probably underrated, especially playing at home. We were up on Texas with two outs in the 7th and lost 2 - 1. Looks like the pitching will be a lot better than last year. Last year, we were beating teams 8 - 4 in the 7th and would lose 9 - 8.
BTW, Depaul went 0 - 5 and only dropped 21 to 26. It's much too early to start conspiracy theories.

Seems to me there would be high volatility early in the season when there is no body of work, then little or none towards the end of the season when you have proved yourself as a team.
An example of the discrepancy between this poll and last year’s week one poll is how UL started the 2009 season #6 or #8 and then fell I think to #19 after going 1-2 to open the season vs Ole Miss.
I'm not saying UL should have stayed top ten a drop was warranted. As it turned out Ole Miss was a below .500 team who played one of the toughest schedules in the country.
Still with no body of work under their belt the static ranking of some teams that lost last week is puzzling.

One loss and I'll agree that they were a victim of a hot pitcher, but Texas beat them both times. Right now Texas proved they deserve to be ranked higher than LSU. Rankings mean a lot because after about 4 weeks the shifting stops and it becomes pretty hard to move up in the polls.
Re: UL Softball Ranking - #16
What is the latest on B minus---Well the other great pitcher we have----Brignac???????
Re: UL Softball Ranking - #16
Good point, Turbine.
BS, I believe both losses to Texas was against the same Pitcher. BTW, I'm hearing that if Yvette doesn't take this team to the World Series, she will be on the hot seat.

I heard from a close source to the program that it is likely that they will shut Ashley down this year and medical redshirt her. The University hasn't made an official decision though - expect to hear that the first week of March.
It isn't a done deal, but don't expect to see #0##0# in the circle this Spring.
