The UL men's basketball team is still looking to fill the last non-conference opening on its 2008-09 schedule.
Although UT-Chattanooga appears to be the front-runner, Sam Houston State is also in the mix for the game at the Cajundome. UL's schedule could be finalized as soon as this week.
Chattanooga shared the Southern Conference's North Division title last season with Appalachian State after going 18-13, including a 13-7 mark in conference play. The Mocs will return three starters and two all-conference players in forward Nicchaeus Doaks and guard Stephen McDowell.

Sam Houston State will return two starters from a 23-8 team that fell in the Southland Conference semifinals to eventual conference champion Texas-Arlington. In addition to two regular-season wins against UTA, the Bearkats posted a 13-2 record in non-conference action, highlighted by wins against Texas Tech, Fresno State and Saint Louis.
The Cajuns open next season on Nov. 15 at home against Louisiana Tech. Other non-conference games include Oral Roberts, McNeese State and Lamar at home and UAB, Tennessee, LSU, Utah Valley State and Alabama on the road.
UL is expected to be among the preseason favorites in the Sun Belt Conference next season. In 2007-08, the Cajuns shared the SBC's West Division title with Arkansas-Little Rock and went 15-15 despite having the nation's third-youngest roster.
All but four Cajuns are expected to return next season. Joining the team is a six-man recruiting class that includes junior-college posts Jeremy Barr, Lester Ferguson and Colby Batiste, junior-college point guard Ryan McCoy and two UNLV transfers - forward Lamar Roberson and center Emmanuel Adeife.
