UL - Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns baseball program has one of the nation's top 50 recruiting classes, according to the 2007 Baseball America magazine recruiting ranking released in October.
Louisiana, the defending Sun Belt Conference regular season champion, was ranked among the 'Best of the Rest' - a region-by-region compilation of top classes that didn't make the magazine's top 25 slots. The Cajuns earned the top spot in the Lower Midwest Region, followed by TCU, Mississippi State, Texas Tech and regional rival Houston.
"With a plus arm, good receiving skills and plus power potential, Thad Griffen is one of the nation's top catching recruits," Baseball America college editor Aaron Fitt said. "Jordan Poirrier will make an immediate impact in the middle infield, while loose right-hander Dayton Marze will do the same for the pitching staff.
"Undersized righty Matt Broussard can reach 93 (mph) and has a good curveball, making him Louisiana's likely closer."
Louisiana was the only Sun Belt Conference school recognized by Baseball America. The University of San Diego Toreros earned the coveted No. 1 ranking in the poll, followed by Louisiana State, Oregon State, North Carolina and Auburn.
The 2008 regular season begins Friday, Feb. 22, when the Ragin' Cajuns face the Army Knights in the opening game of the UTSA Invitational in San Antonio, Texas.

This was the 2007 recruiting class. The 2008 recruiting class might actually rate higher.

The cajuns should have a great year with their experience combined with the freshmen class they have add. Can anyone tell me though what happened to Porrier the Juco transfer middle infielder. He is not on a roster and have heard nothing about him. Did he leave the cajuns? Or is he still around

Think again. There's a reason why the season is starting later this year and it has everything to do with the "big" schools in the north and midwest that can't play baseball in the snow.

Fortunately in those sports you earn your rank by the end of the season.
