Would you date a rival's cheerleader? (help with research)

We're looking to answer that question by conducting research on college football rivalries across the country. Isn't their an inherent assumption that dating a rival's cheerleader means you are dating a rival?

But if you actually start dating don't you then jump from rival to revel, thus making "dating a rival" impossible?
