Universities have signed agreement for a Sept. 15 meeting in Lafayette
McNeese State and the University of Louisiana have agreed to play a football game Sept. 15, 2007 in Lafayette.
Athletic directors Sonny Watkins of McNeese and David Walker of Louisiana-Lafayette made the announcement of the agreement.
Kickoff will be at 4 p.m. at Cajun Field.
The two universities have been attempting to return to the gridiron one of the state's most storied rivalries.
An earlier agreement for a game this year was thwarted when the NCAA turned down a request for 1-AA schools to schedule 12 games.
Watkins said that he was happy to be able to get the game on the board.
"There has always been a lot of interest in the McNeese-Louisiana-Lafayette football rivalry and I know that in restarting this rivalry it will draw a tremendous amount of interest and excitement for our fans and their fans as well as all of Southwest Louisiana," Watkins said.

"David deserves a lot of credit because he worked hard to make some adjustments to have this come about."
The McNeese athletic director also went on to say that he and Walker will be meeting in the near future to discuss the possibility of putting together a longer term contract between the two schools.
The schools played for 36 straight years until the series was halted after the 1986 meeting. McNeese holds a 19-15-2 edge in the standings.
