One of the many local restaurants struggling after the oil spill-- Shuck's in Abbeville-stays positive amidst the hardship.
"We think we're going to be okay; I think you've to got to work harder and be smarter," says Co-owner David Bertrand.
The most popular choice at Shuck's-oysters-and the second most popular choice-shrimp-cost much more now, 2 months after the Gulf oil spill.
The price for Shuck's to buy oysters has gone up almost 80% and to buy shrimp has gone up around 40 percent.
Bertrand says they now have to get oysters from Galveston, Texas.
Even though their shrimp are still from Intercoastal City, prices are up and Bertrand's fishermen say it will not end soon-there is no date set to test the waters.
The summer months bring slower demand for oysters, but Bertrand is worried about the fall.
"The new source is able to provide at this time, however, in our busy season when we're going through 600 sacks of oysters a month, we're not sure they can handle it," he says.
Shucks encourages customers to try other items such as crabmeat and crawfish.
This local favorite, however, still sees crowds.
"They have a footprint in this community and everyone recognizes this. So with the oil spill when you run a business like they and others do in Abbeville, people will continue to support them," says one customer.
