Budget balanced with possible miscalculation

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The governor's top financial adviser
says the House budget panel balanced next year's budget with
economic development dollars already obligated to business projects
and with a possible miscalculation in the federal Medicaid money
available to the state.
Commissioner of Administration Angele Davis outlined her
analysis Tuesday to the Senate Finance Committee.
Senators also questioned whether the proposed cuts made by the
House would violate the rules governing the federal stimulus money
- and whether that could jeopardize the state's ability to use the
hundreds of millions in stimulus dollars.
The House Appropriations Committee slashed funding from colleges
and charity hospitals to make the $25 billion budget work without
using money that is part of a dispute with the Senate.
