Official RPI Comparison w/Boyd's pRPI
You have seen me state in the past that Boyd Nation's Pseudo RPI is close to the official RPI, but that there are some subtle differences. The differences begin to emerge more later in the season. This is because the differences are due to tie games (which Boyd does not include, but the NCAA does). To my knowledge, Boyd uses the same bonuses and penalties the NCAA uses ... though the determination of home/road/neutral games in regular season tournaments has been a topic of debate in the past (applied in situations where a bonus or penalty is being determined) .
Incidentally, the RPI I obtain from Paul Kislanko (SEBaseball.com) does include ties (and more precision in the RPI value). It seems to match the official RPI ordinal rank.
Regarding today's official NCAA RPI report for games through this past Sunday (5/2/10) , here are some minor differences in the ordinal RPI rankings ... which are due to differences in the RPI values themselves. Here, I look at only the Top 75 Adjusted RPI since this is the selection board the NCAA uses to commence the selection process (it will also place regular season champions on that board). To be consistent, I am using Boyd's pRPI publication from Monday morning (there were four NCAA Baseball games played Monday, which results in a slightly different RPI for Tuesday).

Not really knowing all the details-------Do the games being close in the score ----or the fact that they are on the road or at home factor into the RPI???????

Scores do not matter.
With the Base RPI, home/road does not matter. This is one of my chief problems with the RPI used for college baseball. The Adjusted RPI (which is what you see reported on the NCAA site weekly) only takes into account non-conference road wins vs. the Top 75 RPI (bonuses at the Top 25/50/75 tiers) and non-conference home losses vs. the Bottom 75 RPI (penalties at the Bottom 25/50/75 tiers).
Both the Adjusted RPI and the Original RPI (Base RPI) are presented on the NCAA Baseball "Nitty Gritty" report. The report is sorted by Adjusted RPI. This is the report that the NCAA Selection Committee uses during the selection process.
