Sony is on a roll. During its press conference at Gamescom 2014, the company announced it has now sold 10 million PlayStation 4 consoles worldwide. To be clear, this is the number of consoles that have been bought by consumers, rather than simply sold to retailers and other partners. It’s difficult to compare the performance of the PlayStation 4 with its closest rival, the Xbox One, because Microsoft hasn’t announced sales figures in some time. Sony today claimed victory in NPD’s monthly market research console figures. The PlayStation 4 beat out Microsoft’s Xbox One in the US for the seventh month in a row. On the software side, the remastered PS4 version of The Last of Us took the top spot for US retail sales. For the seventh straight month, Sony’s PlayStation 4 has beat Xbox One in sales in the US. Even the increasing of console sales due to price cut was not enough for Microsoft to catch up with PS4.
