Dell, Intel, Samsung And Others Form Open Interconnect Consortium To Promote IoT Standard
Last week, we reported that Microsoft is joining AllSeen Alliance_to participate in the industry discussions around Internet of Things platform. Actually, Microsoft is also joining _Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC). Microsoft believes_that Internet of Things (IoT) represents an undeniable opportunity across a range of industries, and they want to make sure_they deliver the right set of platforms and services to realize the IoT opportunity. Today, Intel, Samsung and others have formed yet another consortium to develop standards for IoT. International Data Corporation expects_the installed base of the Internet of Things will be approximately 212 billion “things” globally by the end of 2020. This is expected to include 30.1 billion installed “connected (autonomous)” things.__Today, these devices are connecting to each other using multiple, and often incompatible approaches. Atmel, Broadcom, Dell, Intel, Samsung and Wind River believe that in order to achieve this scale, the industry will need both the collaboration of the open source community and industry standards to drive interoperability of these devices.
