UL's Long named Sun Belt player of the week

After being named MVP Maui-Mainland Invitational at Coastal Carolina over the weekend, UL sophomore Shawn Long was named Sun Belt Conference basketball Player of the Week today.

It’s already the second time this season the Ragin’ Cajun big man has been named Sun Belt Player of the Week.

Long averaged 21.0 points, 12.0 rebounds and 4.0 blocks per game in wins over Oakland and Coastal Carolina for the 4-2 Cajuns, who after four straight games away from home return to the Cajundome to play Northwestern State on Wednesday night.

The Morgan City High product scored 24 points, pulled down a career high-matching 17 boards and blocked five shots in an 84-75 win over Oakland on Saturday.

In a 73-69 victory against Coastal Carolina on Sunday, he scored 18 – all in the second half after sitting most of the first with foul trouble – and added seven rebounds.
