Each is impressive in her own way. Together the six UL softball signees that played at the LHSCA All-Star Softball Doubleheader stole the show.
Athletically, there was no arguing with Ashley Brignac of John Curtis or Mount Carmel’s Christine Orgeron. Without ever seeing them hurl a pitch or swing a bat, it would be hard not to be impressed with these two.
Brignac looks like a thoroughbred and Orgeron a greyhound. Either way, they should help the Cajuns reach the finish line in style.

St. Thomas More’s Katey Stanford and Ruston’s Katie Smith will bring speed to the Cajuns’ lineup, giving the Lotiefs a change of pace from the three-run home run approach.
Gabby Bridges of John Curtis certainly looked like a good hitter. You never know how that big leap to the college game will work, but Bridges appears to be a perfect replacement for departing Lacey Bertucci at first base.
The one who really intrigues me is Teurlings Catholic’s Donna Bourgeois. This girl is intense. I did witness her smiling and laughing after the Lady Rebels won the state championship. But even after earning MVP honors at the All-Star doubleheader Saturday, it would have been difficult to notice that Bourgeois had just been honored.
This girl is all business. On paper, she may not be the raw college pitching prospect that Brignac is, but I wouldn’t count her out.
She’s serious about proving people wrong. She seems to play with a chip on her shoulder. Don’t count her out.
