McKINNEY, Texas — UL Lafayette’s golf team opens play today in the SMU/Stonebridge Invitational, joining 16 other teams over the 7,202-yard par-72 Stonebridge Country Club course.
The Cajuns, coming off a fifth-place finish out of 15 teams at Southern Mississippi’s Raising Cane Invitational two weeks ago, finished 15th in a 17-team field in last year’s SMU event. However, UL Lafayette has finished in the top eight in each of its first two fall events this year.
Juniors Peter Badawy (71.5) and Glyn Bateman (73.5) and senior Steven Pena (72.3) are the upperclassmen in the Cajuns’ lineup this week. They will be joined by a threesome of Lafayette freshmen — Michael Smith, Morgan Landry and B.C. Thibeaux — who will be playing as a group for the first time. Smith finished tied for fifth in the USM event with a three-under 210 score.
